Looking into a new Stinger but the price difference between the GT and GT1 trims may push me towards the GT. Just curious if anyone has any strong feelings about why to have a GT1 instead? Mostly, is there anything mechanically (suspension, etc) that the GT is really lacking.

I can deal with differences such as navigation and seat coolers. I don't need those. But am more concerned with how they match up mechanically.

thanks

This thread can inform about the differences in the GT and GT1 trims. 2020 Info

I see no mention of the sunroof. But the Harman Kardon 15 speaker surround sound was, along with the sunroof, a must have; otherwise I'd have settled for a GT (in 2018).

Thanks. Yeah, the sunroof isn't a must for me. I've had cars with it before and rarely used it. And the Harmon-Kardon is a big want. But I have an external subwoofer w/built-in amp that will boost the other system enough I think. But love seeing what others think.

Hello
You’re Canadian right ? I think it’s different here.
I got the regular gt last week and not the limited. Are you an IPhone user ? If so the phone plugs in and gives you navigation on the screen so don’t worry about that. Also leather vs Napa leather in the limited is no big difference either.
the heads up display I didn’t care for. And the regular sound system is fabulous, yes the upgraded one is better but trust me the regular one is great. Also in the regular gt you get the door handle lights and mirror lights with auto folding and unfolding mirrors when you approach the car which I wasn’t sure came on the regular gt along with the auto open trunk. You also get to select drive modes just as the limited and customize them too.
when I went to all the dealerships nobody had any regular gt cars in stock so I had to do a ton of research to get these answers. Another difference I think is on the gt you get carbon fibre trim where the limited you get the aluminum ( I like the carbon fibre. I’ll save this thread and can do a little video for you of my car to help your decision but mechanically they’re the same. It’s more the interior and functions.
if you have any other questions let me know and i’ll include it in the video or just answer on here.

Also mine is a 2019 incase any changes were made for 2020. Great time to purchase a 2019 also, great deals out there with zero percent financing for up to 84 months :-)

Thanks for all the info. I’m actually American. But working in Canada right now. So the internet thinks I’m Canadian. Haha. I just let that one slide. But good to hear that the 9-speaker system sounds great too. Like I said, I have an external sub with built-in amp that made my old Pathfinder sound great. So I’m sure it will add a nice boost to the more standard system in the GT.

Picked up my 19 GT1 RWD in Panthera Metal yesterday (it's been a lot queen for a least two months or more). $5K US off MSRP. 3.25% APR for 48 months, $20 K total down. 84 months financing? Not being critical but that's deep into negative equity.

I don't know if I got a dud. But I think the factory stereo SUCKS! Worst sounding factory stereo I've heard in a long time. That is the only thing I don't like about our base GT. I don't need adjustable suspension, the base GT suspension is great IMO. The base GT is just what I wanted. Has more than enough bells and whistles to make me smile, I don't need or really want a sun roof, but that stereo... That is bad.

If I was going to buy a brand new Gran Turismo, there was no way that I was getting less than the best sound system offered. Which is why I ended up with a GT1 instead of that nice Sunset Yellow GT they had. But, nearly everyone here who has the nine speaker "factory" stereo likes them: the subwoofers under the seats are the same. The sound separation should be dynamic; just not as much option to spread it around from corner to corner, etc.

I’m not impressed with the base system either. It did take about a month before the speakers actually broke in. They were super harsh for a while and then they finally started mellowing out and the bass started pushing a bit better too. Not anywhere near the Shaker 500 system I had in my Mustang. This system responds well when pushed, but I don’t want to kill my ears all the time so that’s why it’s a letdown for me

If you ask certain people, the GT has the better suspension setup, it just doesn’t ride as nice. The ECS for some reason doesn’t firm up as much as the stock GT, but maybe that’s something that can be remedied with the Mando suspension controller.

Yeah the base GT audio sucks, my 19 forte had better bass and treble, but I think it has to do with how much room the sound has to travel vs in a forte which is a sedan vs a hatchback sedan.

Differences between GT and GT1 AFAIK:

GT has the smaller instrument cluster screen (Small square instead of full area between gauges), no sunroof, poorer audio system, no adjustable suspension, smaller infotainment screen, no ventilated seats, no auto wipers, fewer standard driver assists and no garage door buttons in the mirror.

I went with the GT because none of that really mattered to me. Lol.

I was kinda disappointed in sound, but I spent $500 or so to add a real subwoofer, and that fixed all my audio complaints.

I went with the gt as well because I did not care for all the extra goodies and a big one for me was the suspension. I just liked the way the gt felt more. I felt a little more connected to the road and what it was doing but then again this is the nicest car ive ever had. Sometimes I do wish i had the upgraded audio but I can live without that..

The factory nine speaker system has the two subs under the front seats. So, I don't understand this lack of base that you are talking about. Listen to this, for instance: it vibrates the very air. :D Dropbox - 04 Sierra Leone.mp3 - Simplify your life

But it's zero percent financing.. so no interest. Sure you can take the full 84 months to pay it off but that also means your payments are way less than 60 months with full payment going to principle. So actually less negative equity than 48 months with 3.25% apr. I got mine @ 0.9%/66 months and I'd rather take the 84 months!

The difference @MerlintheMad is that the bass doesn’t really start coming alive until you start pushing the system. The stock Shaker 500 system in my ‘06 Mustang pushed bass at very low volume and it stayed balanced no matter how loud I went. At low listening levels, the Stinger doesn’t have a full rounded sound with the stick speaker system. I’m not wanting “hair trick” levels. Just enough that I hear my music the way it was intended and the way I know it sounds

My subs didn't really start sounding their best till I had been playing them for a couple of months. Any puny bass experience, still, is source related, not a default in the sound system. Some files just don't have good original definition. No amount of additional subwoofer is going to fix a poor source.

I found that for whatever reason on my Optima that I'd get inferior sound if I used an MP3 over Bluetooth, but that same MP3 connected over USB sounded fuller.

I don't think that MP3 de facto gives a "fuller sound". It is still how the MP3 was sourced. For instance, I have old LP vinyl records converted to MP3 and they don't sound any better than they did back in the 50s and 60s (or even earlier). Bass is puny compared to modern industry db levels. The subs don't boost what they don't detect.
