As the subject says... I’m wondering if this is possible. Would anyone here that works for the dealership be able to confirm if this can happen.

Wondering if someone already knows the answer to this. If the (US) Stinger GTS is awd and comes with the same mechanical parts and design as a 2019 GT1/2 with AWD, yes has drift mode... if you were to flash the GTS ECU software to a GT1/2, would we then also have drift mode too?

About 99.5% sure the hardware is different - comes with an LSD in the rear, for example.

I really doubt having the rear LSD would make any difference in allowing the power transfer to the rear. It's all in the transfer case, and the stock cases in our cars are capable of doing it as is.

I've got an idea, probably a dumb one but hear me out.

IF it's all software (the rear LSD shouldn't make any difference) then, hypothetically, you should be able to directly swap the ECU from the GTS to an equivalent GT1/2. Going one step further, the G70 already includes drift mode in all USDM 3.3 models (which also include a rear LSD), and maybe, just maybe, you could try swapping the ECU with that as well.

I assume things aren't that simple....but....maybe worth a shot? I've got an AWD 3.3 G70 Sport, if anyone is local I'd be down to swap ECU's just for fun. Haha. Though I really think if there's any chance for it to work it would have to be Stinger GTS to Stinger GT2.

Are you in the Chicago area by chance?

Yup, it does have a LSD in the AWD GTS, but it shouldnt make a difference. Both GTS and GT1 AWD have torque vectoring, but one has the LSD, I think it' would be interchangeable.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I guess it might somehow become enabled, if you flash GTS software onto the GT1 ECU - but then do you lose any "extra" features in the GT1, like adaptive suspension? Or some of the drive-wise stuff?

Good point. Here are some of the possible loss (im guessing) of features that could come up if using a GTS ECU:
  • High beam assist
  • Rain sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers
  • Homelink buttons on rear view mirror
  • Driver attention warning
  • Forward collision avoidance assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Heads up display
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Power tilt & telescopic steering wheel (wtf)
  • Smart cruise control
  • Sport gauges (not even sure what this is)
  • Surround view monitor (360 camera)
  • Lumbar support
  • Seat heaters and A/C
  • Coasting neutral control
  • Electronic controlled suspension
  • Electronically-controller transfer case (doesnt sound good)

My guess is that the software would actually support the above items, as most software companies utilize the same code to run on base hardware with or without the added options. It's much easier to design 1 software version to be used on all models and simply add control for modules that are detected, than it would be to create multiple version of the software reduced to only be able to control modules for the exact car it is going into. That being said, it's my guess that the software in the GTS ECU does support these modules, it just doesn't activate those things because the physical module hardware is not detected.

It's been a long minute since I dug into the Stinger, but if I am not mistaken the AWD version of any Stinger GT comes with 2 things standard - heated steering wheel and LSD. I was looking for my research from 18 months ago, but sadly, it is no longer available to me. Can anyone confirm?

This unfortunately is incorrect, the LSD makes a very big difference actually. The open diff stingers use a brake based torque vectoring system, slowing the wheel speed on one side to rotate the car. In contrast the LSD would accelerate the outside tire to rotate the car. If you attempted a "drift" in the open diff stinger you would not be able to induce a lot of angle with the TCS/SC off because the inside wheel will have less traction. In contrast you can hold a decent angle with the LSD as the way it distributes power is different. If you were to flash the tuning from the GTS you would indeed need to I stall the LSD as well.

LSD is only standard in GT RWD versions. They take it out in the AWD version, which sucks :/ Not sure with the heated steering wheel but I can confirm my GT2 has it. It also varies by MY. 2019 has some standard stuff that 2018 had as a option.

I'm still waiting for a LSD to be posted for sale, or eBay. It will go into my '18

I have a feeling if you put a G70, or GTS ECU in the car you will also need TCU (probably more important than ECU) and will have a CEL for a VIN mismatch or something else.
