Hey!

So I’ve been lurking for a while and doing a little research on a new car. I wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new car, but I’m always looking at cars. I’m currently driving a 2013 Scion FRS, had it since new (May 2012), and have just been thinking about getting something a little more “mature” (I’m 47). Nothing wrong with it, it’s just not very practical for a DD. My main hesitancy with getting rid of it is I’ve put a lot of time and money into modifying it. So if I wanted to trade it in I’d need to spend a couple of weekends putting it back to stock, which I haven’t had an appetite to do. I’ve had it listed for sale locally, but with no real offers.

Anyway, I finally got around to test driving a new GT2 AWD today and I’m very impressed with it! I can’t really do a direct comparison with my car, but it definitely held its own in handling and performance. Where it really outshines my car is all the amenities and fit and finish, not to mention having a usable rear seat. Needless to say I’m seriously considering picking one up in the near future. I’d prefer to keep my FRS as a weekend/fun car but not sure my wife will agree. Either way I’ve been stung and it felt good!

Just upgrading the sway bars completely changed the character of the car in the twisties. The car behaves so light it feels like a different car. You’ll be surprised how close it can be to an FRS with just sway bars.

You can’t even compare the 2, ya the frs feels sporty but so slow. The frs is good around turns because it’s super light but the stinger is just an animal with unlimited potential especially if you enjoy modding cars. The stinger is a luxury sport so you can enjoy all the comfort but at the same time it runs 12s in the 1/4 mile. If you grab one trust me you won’t need to keep the frs as the stinger will keep a smile on your face daily. youll like the awd system also, it’s a rear wheel biased so still offers a bit of fun with full control. Theres also a bunch of companies who offer so many upgrades to the car in regards to the performance. The frs you’d have to spend 10,000 on a turbo just to keep up to a stock one and that’s if you’re lucky and at the same time if you spend that on a stinger you’ll be able to keep up with exotics. Just my 2 cents

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Stinger GT! Nice upgrade from the Scion...

Did you only upgrade the sway bars? I have been looking into swapping mine, but not doing the lowering springs. I like the ride height and feel of the car as a DD, but cornering could be a bit tighter like you say. Any adverse affects to your ride quality; harsh, too stiff?

Just a touch stiffer. If I could say anything I would say it’s feel just slightly firmer. It doesn’t “float” as much as it used to. I daily mine also and I have no complaints. I only upgraded the sway bars. I may install some Eibach springs I got a while back for slamming deal, but I’m thinking I won’t do that until my struts go out

I have Eibach springs and sway bars on my car, and it definitely made a difference! It's good to hear it benefits this car as well, thanks!

Good to hear this is a mod-friendly car, as I would eventually do some mods to it. My FRS has been turboed almost the entire time I've owned it. So it's never been slow, per se (~300 whp/275 wtq), but I just feel I'm missing something with it, especially driving it in stop and go traffic every day. As for AWD, yep I definitely like it. I've 3 AWD cars in the past and do like the grip they offered.

Thanks! I haven't upgraded yet, but very likely will soon enough. Still trying to decide if I want to go the lease/buyout route or straight finance.

Yeah I wanna, just have to get the wife on board, lol!
Lol. My wife GAVE me my GT1. Late in the game, she is reminding me our mawwage is made in heaven.

Practicality, matched with looks and performance (plus a sense that waiting for things is over for this boy), sold me. I was not, and never have been, "in the market" for a new car. Vehicles have always been tools for transportation. I started to break out of this mold a few years ago and decided to upgrade my Voyager (if you can believe it); had it repainted, upgraded the shocks, resurrected the engine (needed the head milled), had already spiffed/pimped the wheels, and other things, etc. Then the Stinger promo book was flopped down in front of my nose by a "friend", who walked off laughing: "There's your next new car!" (He knew I had never had a new car, the wag.) It took all winter reading and rereading that bit of Kia hype to get me to go test drive a GT2 AWD, and three days later I bought my "perfect" Stinger (another "match" made in heaven: my wife is not jealous!).

Welcome aboard, you have discovered an amazing performing vehicle for the price. It can be had with lots of great options. Which ever you end up getting will certainly surprise you, like it did already.
