Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

I just picked up my car from the Kia dealer and Kia Australia after they had it for 8 weeks to try and rectify the sunroof rattle. An hour into the drive, the rattle came back.
I think the best way forward would be to start an open Facebook group and upload all videos/recordings?

Mate, disappointing is an absolute understatement - I'm fuming! the car also came back with scratches and an extra 400km on the odometer. I have never experienced anything like this with any other vehicle I have purchased.

I had an xtra 100 KM , ruined tire, wheel steering wheel , scratched roof and door handle ................but they fixed it .................and replaced everything else , feckin wankers !!

8 weeks and they couldn't figure it out...jeez. I'm curious what they bothered to try. I still think the incremental approach is the key. Drop the headliner and if the noises are still there, DO NOT PUT IT BACK UP until you've figured out the gremlins that lie beneath it. I know they didn't work on it for 8 weeks straight, but if they would have I'm sure they could have figured it out.

Thanks for trying for the team though...8 weeks is a long time to be in a loaner (or not your Stinger).

8 weeks was this only this time round! It has been off the road a total of 3.5 months trying to fix this issue. They couldn't even give me a loan car stinger which is what was most annoying. I did demand they replace any panel they removed (headliner and all pillar trims) as previously panels with broken clips were shoved back on. I now just put it down to the fact that Kia have absolutely no idea what's going on with the roof, the only thing we can do is make more noise (again through YouTube and a dedicated Facebook group) and hope it gains traction.
I purchased this vehicle to bring a little joy to my life as a reward from working hard the last 10 years - Dealing with Kia has done nothing but killed that joy.

I would be taking it to the ACCC at this point, and your state dept of fair trade. The behaviour and inability to solve the issue needs more attention.

Out of the last 8 weeks, it spent 3 weeks at the dealership trying to be repaired, and then was sent to he 3rd party panel shop Kia HQ use - they have obviously done jack all in terms of a fix. I am dealing directly with one of the national managers and will send him a lengthy email on Monday morning (got too much on my plate with work at the moment and don't want to deal with all this inconvenient bullshit right now).

The G70's sunroof looks identical to the Stinger's from the outside and inside at the very least. We both also have the optional suede headliner. I know the roofline will be slightly different, but it's quite likely our configurations are very similar.

I've been mildly active and also watching the G70 board, it sounds like they have the same issue with their cars, for many as the temperature rises, their sunroof/headliner makes popping noises. A lot of them call it a headliner noise, but I think it could be the same sunroof noise we have. One user had his entire sunroof replaced (like westcoastGT) and he has said it has been good for a few months now. One other user had his entire headliner replaced when the dealer thought that was the problem, but it did not fix it for him.

Many users over the report being able to replicate the noise by pressing on the passenger side of the headliner ahead of the grab handle. I can also replicate the noise when it is hot out by pressing the headliner where it sits just under the right hand side of the sunroof frame.

It's possible our situations may result in a similar fix for both, but no guarantee.

sorry to hear all this crap mate , if they ever do get it fixed , you'll love the car . I was at the point of getting rid of it , I had 9 BMWs that were virtually silent and the noises from the Stinger were completely unacceptable and too much to continue owning the car ................good luck , if I can help in any way please ask .

Hi, I purchased my 2018 GT2 in Southern California in Dec 2018 and from the beginning the sunroof creaking has driven me crazy. I’ve taken to the dealer twice before and they did not do anything further than adjusting/ greasing and that didn’t work. Now on the third time at the dealer they are apparently taking it seriously and want to look at the frame and are proposing to do a teardown to look at it. I’m concerned about them taking apart liner and so on, not to speak of messing with the frame. Any options? Can I object to it and still look for an alternative solution? Any thoughts from other’s experiences are welcome...

I took mine in today. They said the noise is from a bolt on sunroof's frame coming loose. The service advisor tells me the only way to fix it is to drop the headliner.

They don't have anyone available today that is qualified to do the job so I have to make an appointment with them and drop it off on a weekday.

My confidence that this will fix the problem is low. My confidence that Kia will create a new problem is high.

They have taken mine to the bodyshop for teardown and repair. They are anticipating it’ll take a couple of weeks... I don’t have much faith and I’m concerned about them messing with the frame, paint,..., but the noise is driving me so crazy it’s actually not allowing me to enjoy the car. We’ll see how it goes.

my headliner has been in and out twice without causing more problems , the bolt tightening issue is another thing , get them to inspect the whole frame to see if there is a defect , crack etc ..................good luck keep us posted

Did they try retightening the bolts when you were going through it?
