I have a silver 2018 Kia Stinger GT. I like the car and it’s fun to drive but starting to have bad paint cracking along the plastic strips on the roof. Anyone else hear anything about this problem?

That's a new one for me. Do you mean the gloss black plastic part or the body-colored strip above the door frame?

It's happened to a number. I believe most have bee replaced under warranty. Speak with your dealer first.

Search in the extensive "paint chip" thread if you want to read about it, but your vehicle has an extensive warranty on paint, so your dealer will replace them.

Yes, there are a few examples of this going around on these forums and elsewhere - it's international as well, I've seen examples online from the US and Australia at least. It's fully warrantable (as long as you're still within then paint warranty, which I believe you would be), don't accept claims from a dealership that it's because you used the wrong car wash products or the like, that's simply not true.

Body colored strip. Took it in and they will replace them. Hopefully won’t have same issue. I guess we will see.

easy replacement , I had mine wrapped when I did my roof , they are a painted piece

I literally got this car because the paint on my white Honda Accord was peeling around the rear windshield.. If this happens on my white Stinger GT I might just give up on cars

Paint is arguably less tough than it was in recent years. Ecological pressures on paint chemistry has resulted in safer/greener paint formulas. And all manufacturers are feeling the effects of these changes in paint adhesion and durability.

Rather than giving up on cars, I reckon we have to be realistic and go with wraps over pristine OE paint. I've already decided (well, 99% decided) that my next "paint job" will actually be a full wrap: if and when that is on the Stinger, the future is unwritten.

The problem with Honda was just the three stage white paint application since it did not happen on other colors. Hope Kia has better paint in 3 years, if not I will definitely wrap it orange with the help of a buddy I know who wraps.

I won't comment on YouTube this time, even though I "Liked" your exposé.

My only observation is that this common "White rain channel" problem on the Accord (and Civic?) is extremely limited in number, if the number of hits on your video is any indicator: and the total examples on the Facebook channel are few also. Thousands upon thousands of Accords/Civics are sold each year. An extensive issue with peeling white "rain channel" paint would result in a literal flood of complaints. So, you were an unlucky one. I hope your luck with the Stinger is much better!

That's almost TOO severe to be entirely natural, like it started to crack, and someone applied harsh chemicals thinking they were going to stop it, but only made it much worse

In the pic, your left window dark chrome trim is looking like it's getting spotted?

I bet your stinger's "port" side is more directly exposed to the sun.
