And You Thought The Stinger Had Bad Paint!

The Astras did particularly badly in the Australian sun...

That's why Tesla's have Sentry mode... to notify the owner when a Tesla quality control inspector has dropped by and tested the vehicle's paint thickness using a common key.

Pencil hardness test: interesting and simple, and I never heard of that before.

70 microns?! Stinger has 135.

And, the Tesla is ugly and boring.

The Stinger’s paint isn’t likely “bad”. More likely is the application process(es) including curing. I think the colors themselves are pretty awesome. Just seems to be a problem keeping those colors ON the painted surfaces. The ceramic nano coating I applied has enhanced the hardness level of the top coat significantly, however, 5 rock chips in paint alone at just over 9k miles. Could be these California roads though. I’m hearing great results from those applying db

Im sure Tesla is not the only manufacturer with paint quality issues. But keep in mind that since we are talking about a KIA!!...People tend to have unrealistic expectations and blow the issue out of proportion since the brand has not "established" it self as a quality one as the "others" have (in their eyes).

I have a 2019 Snow White Stinger. The antenna is already turning yellow. Sucks......I have only had it about two months. Dang Arizona sunshine. When I take it in for service, I'll have them put a new one on and have it vinyl wrapped in clear, hopefully the wraps UV protection will stop that.

That's a first! Sorry about that weird paint flaw. It must be just that teensy bit too close to the Arizona sun. :p

I love the "Push the button Max", how many people remember that. We must be older than dirt. Raise the cone....

We have just as much sunshine here with no paint coloration issues. I suspect you simply got a bad antenna. Good luck

What the heck? You started it with your signature ("Push the button, Max ...") I just threw in "Raise the cone" and Manaz completed it by adding "of silence), "Max Raise the cone of silence" is something the chief said almost every time they used it. Not too many of us actually remember that show.
True, it has nothing to do with paint. lol

The show was Get Smart. Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway played Agents 86 and 99 respectively in the 2008(?) revival movie.

Ahah! Wrong Max! You thought my signature reference was Maxwell Smart. I totally forgot that sitcom, even though I watched it quite a few times (don't recall the "cone of silence" though.)

No, "Push the button, Max …" is a The Great Race reference. Jack Lemon (Professor Fate) says that to Max (Peter Falk) each time one of Fate's dastardly clever devices of destruction is about to be deployed: which backfires with predictably disastrous results.

(Your observation that we are as old as dirt if we remember this is accurate since The Great Race came out in 1965.)

I didn't see it and dimly recall something of the sort coming out.

Why are Stinger owners so passive about the bad paint?!?! I cannot figure this out for the life of me. There are hundreds...probably thousands of us all in the same boat with the same flaking paint problem! This is not a coincidence people. We should not just keep blaming it on the rocks and taking it upon ourselves to just pay for more paint enhancements/fixes. How about standing up for ourselves??? How about joining forces and presenting a reasonable case to Kia Motors letting them know that we are highly dissatisfied with the paint jobs on these $40-50k dollar vehicles we've purchased from them. Mine came to light after only a couple months of ownership and a couple thousand miles driven. Unacceptable!

I'm sure we're all over 21 and have owned numerous cars. This is car number 19 for me personally (since the age of 21). So 22 years and 19 vehicles later, I have yet to experience this level of paint failure. The Stinger also happens to be the highest sticker price I've ever paid for a car. I co-signed on a Kia Rio for my sister a few years back, but I have never personally owned/driven a Kia. This is my first Kia and my first bad paint experience, so I have to deduce that Kia Motors is the common denominator here. Therefore, the onus should lie with Kia not me (or you). Thoughts?
