Is there any truth in there being allowed to drive at over the speed limits in those NT straight highway? Is that a myth?

It is now but for a long time we had open speed limits here. The last Cannonball Run was the death knell for the open limits. We used to regularly sit on 190 km/hr and would go to Ayers Rock just to have lunch.

Now the speed limit is 130 km/hr on the Stuart HWY but only in the N.T.

Speed limits are an infringement of personal liberty. Speed limits are for revenue gathering, not safety. The way the world should work is to post a speed recommendation, to protect the state from frivolous lawsuits. The posted speed should allow for all drivers skill levels.

The privilege of driving must be demonstrated by acceptable training. This is not an infringement on personal liberty, because how people drive directly affects everyone around them. If a vehicle is unsafe beyond a given speed and condition, and a driver exceeds those limitations, the outcome is incumbent on the driver. Not having speed limits would not change this. But it would free up competent use of a performance vehicle. By imposing speed limits, the State is saying, "We do not believe that you are intelligent enough to choose how to operate your vehicle. And furthermore, we are protecting you from yourself."

All such "laws" are usurpation of inalienable rights inherent in personal liberty.

Thanks, that’s the K logo that I got here at the Stinger Shop. Link is at the top of these pages and look at all the logos Sal has up there! I thought it was more in keeping with the GT nature of the car, mor luxurious less sporty.
