Drag/Acceleration Mods to improve ¼ mile times and unofficial track thread

no kidding, I guess I shouldn't have said anything but I just hate to see community members being nasty to others for no dang reason. I am curious how the brake snip guys are launching their cars though, anyone want to chime in that's done it that isn't guarding their "Secret" like a teenage girl with a hickey? Would love to know how much RPM the brakes are holding and how much wheel spin everyone is getting.
They have been trying to launch on boost at about 3k, however that provides wheel spin and hop. I've been launching around 2600 to 2800.
I'm starting to think it's not about rpm but the fact that your launching on boost(8lbs). Too much rpm and all hell brakes loose.

oh yeah, the boost is making a huge difference I'm sure. You're getting wheel hop with AWD? Are you getting any bogging at 2600-2800?

No bogging nothing but clean runs. I tried to launch north of 3k and had bad wheel hop. Theres a sweet spot and I'm leaning lower rpm atm.

Yes go too high and you'll break traction or hop.. The perfect zone might be around 2800rpm? And hit that spot and those low 1.6 60' times are possible. Someone with lighter rims might even hit a 1.5x?

Im getting alot of spin above 2,500 RPM and nearer to 3000 RPM the rear breaks wont hold and the rear tires start spinning while the front breaks hold the car just barely (AWD). For me A 2,200 to 2,300 rmp seems to let it hook with little to no wheel spin on the stock 18 all seasons. (Remember this is on the street im sure it could be higher on a prepped surface).

I haven't heard of any RWD's (with street tires) yet that have tried the new launch... Terry have you gotten any feedback? I still need to do mine and dial in map 6 for a launch in 2nd gear.

I've heard some good results using 2nd gear for starting, but traction remains the issue. Play around with it.

Also the throttle is opening immediately instead of the delay on LC.
Angel had 3 low to high 1.7s and then one low 1.6, would be cool to know the difference but maybe he just got lucky?

it's possible the track he goes to has really good prep, it also might have a bit of a negative grade which would help explain his better numbers. There are definitely faster tracks than others where I live, with the same or near same altitude.

He goes to Great Lakes in Wisc. Trust me when i say its not a well prepped track. It does well for the first hour or so lol.

I was wondering about the .15 variation on 60 foot on the same day. If he can lock down the low 1.6s more often he will put down some good times.

typically on test and tune days, the prep gets worse and worse the more street tires that run on it. Slicks typically put down extra rubber, treaded tires pull it up. I would expect the better 60' was either earlier in the day, or on the stickier side of the track, or both.

Hey guys.... today was my first day ever at a track and my best time was 12.850 @ 110.87 mph. I was running Map 5 on the JB4 with an e30 mix. It was incredibly hot, like 95 degrees, so I didn't expect my times to be super great, but I was thinking I would do slightly better than this. My 60' was 2.023, which seems absolutely horrible from reading all the posts. Is it possible that my 20 inch wheels are slowing me down? Or maybe I just suck at launching...lol!

I'm a newbie to this, so just trying to learn as much as possible. At some point, I will get around to trying the BMS Switch, which will hopefully help.

Let's see a JB4 log of the run and see how we can improve it!

Thanks, Terry! Here's the log...

Holy seat soak, 160f starting inlet temps! Update the firmware so we have cyl 2-6 timing but I think the temps alone have you down 30-40hp. Boost is reasonable as is fueling. Timing is lower due to the higher IAT.

For the launch, any plans to do the Burger brake switch? It's a real difference maker for AWD cars. :)

WMI will do wonders for you :)

It's definitely the next mod I will be doing before taking it to the track again.
