Just installed the Borla s type exhaust, it sounds great, bit of drone, doesnt bother me much. I noticed after that my mileage went way up. I only had 70 miles till empty, but after installing it jumped to 98. Also when I filled up, I got 330. I never got that high before. I'm not sure about performance, idk if it's just me but I kinda feel a tiny bit slower. Could just be in my head. But I'm happy with the sound.

I think a lot of the reason for the drone is that the Borla tail pipes don't have the plates on their tips that the stock pipes have:

I tried this guy's solution of wrapping the tips with exhaust wrap to fill the gap between the pipes and the factory exhaust tips:

Using this wrap (wear gloves):

Now the drone is gone and the cabin noise is reduced. Still louder than stock on the inside but at least I can have a conversation without shouting.

As for the slower feeling, I felt the same way at first, and also when I first installed an intake. It seemed like some low end torque had gone missing and it needed more throttle to get going. I think the ECU just needs time to adjust.

I would consider cutting the Borla tips back at least 2 inches , the wrap is a good idea ..............

I bought some dynamat and dynaliner to cover the trunk area. Hopefully that will help some. As far as being slower, that's what I thought also. Maybe the ECU needs to adjust to the new exhaust. Have to do some runs with the dragy to confirm if its hurting or helping.

I am looking at picking up this exhaust myself but is it really that loud? also with the drone and the wrap to help fill in the gap from the tips how about just installing some aftermarket exhaust tips that clamp onto the exhaust tips as well? i have seen a few setups with the akrapovic tips that look pretty nice as you remove the stock tips. Thanks!

I'm interested to see how this works out for you.

It is that loud, but not so loud at low RPM that you can't creep through your neighborhood at 2 AM without waking the neighbors. At higher RPM it's a dramatic change from the factory exhaust. I give it a lot of throttle as I approach my office building and my coworkers can usually hear me coming. The folks standing outside the Mexican grocery store will stare as I pass by. I like to think that they call me trueno blanco instead of the more likely pendejo as the Borla exhaust sings them the song of its people. But it sounds good and so far since I've installed mine, everyone that's commented on it has had positive things to say. Downshifts sound awesome and you get a cool popcorn noise when slowing down from about 30 mph. And the cabin noise isn't terrible. I always listen to audio books and podcasts in my car and don't have a problem hearing every word while driving normally.

I haven't looked at any aftermarket tips but anything that keeps the sound from the tail pipes from reverberating under the car should work. The wraps were just the quickest and cheapest solution I could find.

I Used Dynamat and Dynaliner and it reduced the "drone" some more. I wasnt really bothered by it, even before the exhaust I could hear it a little bit if you are on the pedal. The exhaust just brings it out. I just did this for the girl and my baby daughter.

I cut those plates off the stock pipes and bolted them to a u bolt. That seemed to help a little. I love the way this exhaust sounds except for the gurgling sound it make when I let off the throttle at low speeds.

Really? I love that gurgling sound

Any idea what the total cost ended up being to do this? Are you saying it was fairly effective?

Around $230 for the material, this was my first time ever using these also. It was very easy, and I would say maybe a 20-30% sound reduction, but I think you can even do better if you get under the rear seats.

I am also curious about the exhaust wrap solution that was posted. That seems to be very effective.

I'm thinking of rigging a aluminum or stainless plate like the stock exhaust. Getting materials this weekend, if it works I will post.

I just cut the plates off the stock pipes and bolted them to a U-bolt and slid them on. So far they're holding up well.

Awsome, but I dont want to cut up my stock pipes

How did you bolt the plates to the u-bolt

So I just had the Borla S-type cat back exhaust installed on my GT1. Wow - it's definitely not stock any more. The sound is SO much more aggressive; especially on start up and when going hard on the throttle. A welcome change over the OEM exhaust, that IMO, was almost embarrassingly quiet for a car with so much performance potential.

Not sure I've got the driving time yet to make a solid opinion, but initial thoughts are that it sounds much better. I love the gurgles when slowing down through the gears. Oddly, it seems louder in comfort mode than when in sport. I suppose that has to do with the way the engine keeps revs higher with more throttle response, idk. Either way, it's great to be able to hear the exhaust response when you want.

I definitely see where some are coming at with the loudness issue. The sweptback shape of the cabin is essentially acting like an echo chamber for the mufflers under the hatch. I'll see how I feel once there are some more miles on it, but I may consider Dynamat/Dynaliner on the trunk floor to cut out some of the noise. Similar to this post

Awesome I am either going for borla or ark grip still can't make up my mind. Either one will eventually end up with the ark down pipes as well. Hummm decisions.. I would also look at taking off the rear exhaust tips on the bumper and putting aftermarket tips clamped onto the exhaust pipe ends perhaps that will push out the sound enough with either exhaust to help with the drone.

How did you bolt the plates to the u-bolt
Here are a few pics of what I did
