Jb4 Fuel wires

I remember reading this somewhere but I cant find it anymore. How do I know that the fuel wires are on and working correctly? I have just got rid of the positaps and installed o2 harnesses to the jb4.
 
With a JB4 log checking fuel trims bank to bank.
 
If fuel trims are going up and down it is working right?

Here is a log, just regular street driving. Would you be able to tell from this.
Terry is the expert but your entire column of “fuelen” or fuel enrichment is 0 so I would say no, they aren’t working. But that could also be because you didn’t do a WOT run as that is what would show if it was working or not.

Both fuel wires & positaps are installed and on tightly so it completely pierced the red wires?

I just removed the positaps, and installed o2 sensor harnesses for the jb4 fuel wires so this is why I am wondering if all is working. Before that my fuel en would go up under WOT. But I havent got the chance to go WOT yet since the install.

I don’t understand what you mean by “removed the positaps”? You need them to install & attach the fuel wire to the red wires on the engine. You followed the instructions in the fuel wires video on the n54 page? Kia & Hyundai JB4 - N54Tech.com - International Turbo Racing Discussion
 
I'd need full throttle logs to evaluate the fuel control.

Wow. That’s ridiculously more complicated and so many more things can go wrong. People always want to reinvent the wheel but cause more stress & problems than it’s worth.:confused:

Think people need to remember the phrase “if it aint broke don’t fix it”.

Just stick with the actual creators(Terrys) tried and true version and simply use two positaps to attach the wires and be done with it.:thumbup:

And it's broke (or at least not ideal, as several people believe)? I believe Terry's also supportive of the new harness...

I couldn’t disagree more with this comment. What is more complicated about plugging a connector in?

It would seem to be infinitely easier than using plastic Posi-Taps which may cross thread and if overtightened, which is easy to do, reforms the connecting base.

Also when removed several times jeopardizes the Posi-Tap’s structural integrity, all of which are potential points of failure and are removed by the extension harness and that’s before we get into mistakenly dropping a Posi-Tap into the ether that is the engine bay, so once again, what’s complicated about plugging in a harness?

I think Terry already chimed in but fuel control only comes into play when you’re on the go-fast pedal. Otherwise the ECU is controlling things. So put your foot in it then log.

Fuel enrichment isn’t going to move if you’re put-putting around town

Here is a quick log, I see the fuel en numbers at around lines 1500+. Not completely WOT, but just a quick pull from a light on the ramp. I would still like to know what to look for when looking at fuel trims from bank to bank, how should the numbers look like if fuel wires are working, and does having fuel wires allow you to make more boost?

Hey Ecko, I got the harnesses installed last night, and just hoping everything is working correctly. Only thing I seem to notice, is it takes a little more from my foot to generate the sucking sound from my intakes, it could just be me though.

Generally speaking, just general drivability logs aren’t useful unless you’re tracking a vacuum leak. Your ECU is doing all the work at partial throttle.

JB4 comes alive when you’re in boost. N54 Tech is really useful in helping you understand your logs and there are quite a number of YouTube videos that are specifically about interpreting your JB4 logs.

The fuel wires exist to lean out your AFR under WOT conditions to make more power as the ECU, by default, would actually make your AFR richer if the fuel wires were not connected, depriving you of power and actually misfiring due to the richer AFR. The fuel wires and boost levels are not related.

But if you really want to learn about logs and just diving more into the JB4, I would recommend venturing over to N54 Tech. That’s where Terry spends the bulk of his time and probably where if you post a log you’d get a quicker response, by Terry and his knowledgeable team, than here. Of course Terry frequents here as well but N54 Tech is home for him.

On the add on harness we have no problem with it. We're working on sourcing our own connectors to do the same as there seems to be more demand for it than we expected. Just be aware sometimes more wiring = more potential problem areas. :)
