Kia Stinger GT vs Chevrolet SS - Your Thoughts

I'd like to know how YOU feel the Kia Stinger GT compares with/to the Chevrolet SS. I'd especially like to hear from people who've driven both cars - or in them. Or, at the very least, are knowledgable about how they both perform...

In my personal opinion, the SS was an awesome machine when it first came out. It was a muscle sedan that was somewhat affordable in regards to what you got in the vehicle. That being said the Stinger wins my vote every single time. We have Chevy Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Kia, Hyundai , honda, all within a mile stretch. ( Reference to unbiased opinion) It would take moving up to the new CTS-V or possibly the V-sport for me to even consider comparison as far as all around vehicle driving and quality. For the money, I dont think there is a car close to the stinger as far as a total package.

We don't have an SS in stock right now . Once we get one on trade or if we order one I'll do a side by side walk around video if youd like.

Funny how I never saw a single SS on the road until I got the Stinger; within the first week, I ended up next to two. Oddly enough, both of them tried to taunt me into a race. Tempting, but I outgrew all that years ago.

The SS is kinda plain but one area it beats the Stinger is exhaust note; that V8 sounds sweet as it roars away.

Hard to beat a V8 roar and cackle.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
This is still in production, for those so inclined...

Yeah, that and the demon - if you're looking for pure performance and really not any luxury. The SS wasn't the most luxurious vehicle either - but it had some nice options for it's time...

I think people upset by the SS being gone will be happy to learn about the Stinger GT when the time comes...
The problem with the SS was it looked exactly like a Malibu. They really needed it to look better to get enough sales to keep it going.

The Chev. SS is a re-badged Holden Commodore SS built in Australia. Holden ceased business on local assembly which is why the Chevrolet disappeared too. They are the same car and here is a showdown between the two -

Video is further down that page.

It's a bit surprising really and I have driven neither car so can't comment.

It was definitely a little bland - like the final generation of Pontiac GTO and, to maybe a lesser extent, the Pontiac G8. It needed a little something more to make it a truly attractive vehicle. If they played their cards right it could have been the new Impala SS...

Have driven neither, but further to ibmaxx's posting, some more comparisons:

An SS paced me for a decent distance through traffic this weekend, before he finally overtook me on an open stretch. It was nice to see him get into the throttle once he finally had the opportunity. The other cool thing was that it's the second SS I've seen on the road this year that had been badge-swapped for Holden lions (example). In fact, that's probably the only reason I initially noticed either of them, since they otherwise look like...basic Chevy sedans.

Some Holden SS owners here in NZ have been known swap with Chev badges. I've even seen a couple SS's fitted with the Chev front bumper and grill. The allure of the exotic.

25 years ago I grill-swapped my standard VN Holden Commodore Wagon grill for a Bathhurst sports special version. It looked great and I was very proud that my car looked 'unique, although the Holden dealer that supplied it, wouldn't fit it - so I got a local body shop to fit and paint it.

I posted this over in the Holden section before I saw the Chevy SS thread:

I have a 2015 Chevy SS (American version of the Redline) and the Stinger feels pretty close speed-wise. Magazine times are very close. Within a .1 0-60. Handling-wise the Stinger is not quite as sharp as the Chevy. It understeers more. However, the Stinger is nicer interior and feature-wise and quieter inside.

Yes, the Stinger is more of a grand tourer than the SS was. But performance is very similar. Hey, I missed you before because I replied about a second after you did. Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up! I'm glad you found us. To own a Chevy SS you must be a car nut like the rest of us. :p
