I had some pretty bad drone cruising at highway speeds with the Borla cat-back & SSR pipes, so I tried the exhaust wrap fix as seen here:
MAJOR improvement - no more drone and inside the car is quieter in general. I was going to get sound dampening material to line the trunk like others have done but I don't think there's any need now.
Thanks for sharing! I really hope this works and just ordered the exhaust wrap myself. I added Vibrant resonators to eliminate drone and it stopped about 50% of it, but if this works well I may drop the resonators and go back to the muffler deletes by themselves. Fingers crossed.
Yeah they didn’t even specify if they are primary DPs or 2ndDPs, but from the picture they look like 2ndDPs or what some people still refer to as midpipes.
There's actually only one down pipe in the exahust system, which then connects to a mid pipe, which then connects to an X pipe and then you have the mufflers.
Those OBX “downpipes” are the secondary downpipes/midpipes depending on terminology. (This horse has been beaten enough lately so it doesn’t matter what you want to call it lol.) SSR/JUNBL/ARK all sell their own version of these pipes which essentially delete 2 catalytic converters and increase pipe diameter for that section. There’s a couple of threads about these and whether they add HP/TQ. I recently installed the Ark secondary downpipes/midpipes and noticed a small increase in the “butt dyno” and can actually hear some exhaust note over the intake sound now.

Yes and no. Other platforms call it a mid pipe, some would also call the midpipe/second dp the downpipe while referring to the primary dp as an o2 housing. Its all 6 - one half dozen
Don't give a damn what they are or what they call them. You couldn't pay me to put OBX anything near my car. But I prefer having exhaust parts that actually fit somewhat and stay together.

I agree on most other cars, but that’s not correct on our Stingers since we have two sets of cats that come “down” from the turbos. There are basically two parts of the down pipes for us and they’re just split in two pieces, hense the secondary downpipe designation.
Do we know what is the diameter for the piping of the stock exhaust line? (internal diameter)
Like
Primary downpipe : ?? inches
Secondary downpipe : ?? inches
Mid pipe : ?? inches from the secondary DP to the resonator
Mid pipe : ?? inches from the resonator to the end pipe
End pipe : 2.0" inches from the mid pipe to the muffler
End pipe : ?? out of the muffler
Is anyone able to fill some of the blanks? Is it 2 inches all the way??
Also another question:
There seem to be no merge point between the both exhaust lines, is that correct? (no H-pipe or X-pipe)
Be aware that even if it's 2", that won't be consistent, as the stock system is press-bent, meaning the diameter reduces where the pipe changes direction.

I believe most of the exhaust besides the bends and press-bent portions are 2.25”. The inlet into the primary DP is 1.25” and is the smallest portion & biggest restriction.

I had trouble installing it since I didn’t pull the resonators or piping off and just did my best to wrap it while it was on the car. However it was more of a test just to see if it worked well enough to remove my resonators again.
I have to say even with the amateur job it still eliminated almost all the drone from my muffler deletes!
I wish I knew about this before I added my resonators but think I’m going to remove them to go back to just a muffler delete, and then reinstall this drone fix the right way the second time around.
Thanks again for sharing and have to say it’s one of the best upgrades I’ve made, which is saying a lot.

So would the best way to install this be wrapping it before installing the exhaust or removing the tips to install it after the exhaust is installed? I wonder how hard it will be to get the ends of the exhaust into the tips with the wrap on during install? I guess the tape is soft and looks like it compresses where it needs to since the tips are an oval shape correct?
