Under-Seat Subwoofer Issues

Update - per Kia the sub is working as long as it moves a $1 bill. Long story short, I contacted Kia consumer affairs, and they put the engineer who designed the audio system in touch with the dealer and this is what she said. Per the dealer, the subs met this stringent test (sarcasm). The dealer said they’ve never spoken with an engineer who helped design a car, which shows you Kia is taking this seriously. The dealer told me they informed Kia and the engineer that I am not happy. I was told I’ll get a call from Kia consumer affairs tomorrow. So they are working as designed. Hopefully I can get kia to offer something to get them working better (maybe a better amp?).

I’ll keep pushing and will provide another update tomorrow. I am hoping Kia does the right thing. Stay tuned!

i got the sub to more air after playing load bass musics for several weeks (neighbors must hate me), it sounds bit better now, i can feel vibrations in the seats now, before i was using bluetooth which was attenuating the low frequencies. USB is much better.

What they do for 1 they have to do for everyone , if the sound is as planned you probably wont get anything close to a better amp , good luck though

Can't tell if serious. :p You're not kidding? If the speaker is strong enough to move a dollar bill, it's working to specification? Is anyone else seeing this?

There may have been some miscommunication. My guess is the dollar bill is a good way to tell if the sub is dead or not. Not that it is working to "specs". (Although I would guess it is, they are not huge speakers, and you can't expect it to shake the seat..)

Do other manufacturers besides BMW have under-seat subwoofers? I'm wondering if I should pop over onto one of the BMW forums and get their thoughts and opinions...
My brother-in-law has a Dodge Ram with the stock under-seat subwoofers and those things could move a copy of War and Peace.

We definitely need some clarity on this...

Right. Under-seat subwoofers aren't going to rattle the windshield but they're going to do more than look sexy...

A dollar bill is just a simple test to see if the cone is moving air. It proves the speaker is connected correctly and moving. But moving a dollar and working doesn't mean it's awesome.

Agreed. According to Kia, working= up to spec. I’ll get more clarification tomorrow.

Now don't forget there are two levels of system I have the base unit and I really don't think the subs are there now I've heard otherwise but there is not a peep coming out from those subs plates under my seat

The 9-speaker system doesn't have subs under the seats, does it?

exactly probably not but the grates are there some say they do some say no but seeing as a lot are not even working hard to get a definitive answer

I plan to buy the base GT (9 speaker system) and will add a JL audio 10 inch Powerwedge+ powered sealed 10 that should round out the system. Has anyone tried an aftermarket solution?

This thread inspired me to do my own subwoofer test, since I too am just a little disappointed in the HK. I placed a 5 on the woofer and it definitely seems to be working:

try with a $1 ..................the girls always dance better for a $5 er !:p:p:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:
