thinking of getting a stinger gt

I had been waiting for the g70 but with the ridiculous pricing on that I'm now moving back to my original thought of the stinger gt (I prefer the more practical hatch anyway)

A couple of things that I'm a bit concerned about

I'm hearing stories of rattles and creaks etc after a while, does this tend to be only in the early models ? have they now got it under control

When I last looked at this some 12 months ago, the fitting of the tow bar was horrendous, they cut out a huge section of the bottom apron, do we know if they've remedy this problem

I note that the recommended fuel is actually only regular 91 unleaded, has anyone noticed any advantage in running higher octane, do we know if there has been any dyno testing done comparing high and low octane

Hi I’m an early owner Oct.17 no rattles here, as for towbars some have done some tidy jobs now, if you do a search on here & you should find pics that have been posted.

As for fuel I only use 98 Shell V-Power, as for 91 I won’t even put that in my wife’s Cerato, I only will use 95 & above.

MY19, no issues here so far.

The owners manual stipulates that the stingers ECU is tuned to run precisely on 91RON. Have been putting in 91 since new. Might put in 98 quarterly or so for cleaning properties.

Sure, many people will say premium unleaded (98RON) is undoubtedly a better fuel and burns cleaner in engines tuned for this type of fuel but given the stingers not specifically intended to run on it, then many of those benefits won’t be realised. The car will not extract any more power given it is tuned for 91RON.

Notwithstanding the manuals comment about the required fuel, there is a 91/95 recommendation in my fuel filler flap which confuses me a little. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've used 91, 95 & 98 I can't see any significant so far.

But I've used the cheapest of cheap fuel in my 3 year old turbo fiesta and the injectors were recently clogged. So I've moved up to 95 only.

2018 model almost a year old, no issues, only drinks vortex 95, has never had anything else in it since I bought it, runs well gets good mileage avg 600km per tank

Assuming all Stingers are alike the world over, as far as build dates and hypothetical "issues" are concerned: my Feb2018 build is perfectly quiet and tight. Only individual vehicles get "noises off", and most of them are addressable. You've been looking into this for a considerable time. The best way to assure a quiet car is to test drive the one you want and listen for anything. If it doesn't make noises, then chances are greatly increased that it won't anytime soon.

As far as the fuel is concerned, some engines particularly those that run advanced knock sensors, do have the ability to sense a higher octane rating and advance timing ect

However if people have tried higher octane fuels and felt no appreciable difference, safe to say other than it being a cleaner running fuel there is no real advantage

I think you'll find the odd rattle in almost any vehicle. The major known ones have been sorted out...hatch and some sunroof issues...so don't let that put you off.
As per stated by Stinger GT SS in regards to tow bar. A member in NZ had one fitted and the diffuser was totally butchered but I recall another local member had a very neat install.
For fuel, 91 is the minimum recommended. Most of us run 95 or 98 but i know of one member who has run 91 for nearly 12months without any issue and she gets better consumption than some on higher grades. Also there doesn't seem to be a real difference in performance

Also comparing fuel consumption is really apples and oranges stuff because everyone drives differently in different traffic conditions which means regardless of fuel used you’ll always have variations in fuel consumption rates between owners. Generally speaking the car goes ok on fuel and that’s what matters. If you like it buy it. If you look it over, test drive etc and aren’t sure then maybe it’s not the car for you. That being said it’s a great car and if you get one I think you’ll enjoy it

March 19 build Aurora Black Pearl GT here, just over 2 weeks old and 325ks on clock LOL. Only issue I had was no interior lighting on delivery. Fuse was missing, replaced and all good. No issues whatsoever, absolutely love the car. Was also told by dealer that it is necessary to only run 91 octane as higher gives no real advantage. Happy to be corrected though. A true driver's dream in every respect!

Congrats on the car, but you’re dealer is talking shit as most of them do. It’s not necessary to only run 91. That’s the minimum octane rating the car can handle but it’s not necessary to run it. You can run whatever you want as long as it’s 91 or up. Only thing I’d suggest is not running E10 even though it is rated at 94 octane.

I go by the factory printed information in the owner’s manual.....91!

2018 GT2 RWD with March build date. No rattles or squeaks. I ran pump octane of 91 for a while, but the OM says 87 or above so I tried that and got about the same performance and mileage? 25 mpg city and 30 highway (@75 mph).

I am looking at a 2019 AWD GT2 and my only concern was mpg (17/25) because I Drive a lot. If this can fluctuate to 25-30, this may be a no brainer.

The only thing that kills gas mileage with this car is stop-start traffic. If you can maintain forward momentum there is no reason why you shouldn't see 25+ mpg on a regular basis. But most of us live in big metro areas, and most of us work and do rush hour on a regular basis instead; so sub 19 mpg is typical.

On my most recent road trip, I pushed up to 31 mpg. But the most common mileage I see is between 24 and 27 mpg.

Be careful comparing fuel octanes between Australia & overseas - there's different measurement standards.

Unless your getting run over - you can't see inside that hole to access the locking pin. I added a cable tie to stop the pin from moving and any potential rattling.
