Explain briefly what brought you to this model!

I'm a long time Mustang drag racer, had 11 of them over the years. Had a '13 GT, but those cars are pretty bad in Winter. Only wanting one car, I traded it on a one year old '14 Taurus SHO. Great Winter car (AWD), it ran a 13.7 quarter stock and the styling was decent. But missing the looks/power of the Stang, I traded it on a '16 Mustang GT. This was followed by one of the worst Winters in years, so I relented and traded on a new '17 Fusion Sport (AWD). That car was great in the snow, ran a 13.8 quarter stock, and I got a great discount on it, but the styling wasn't there.

Enter the Stinger GT, which combined Mustang like acceleration with great styling and AWD.

Game Over.

Yeah, I paid more than I did for any of the other cars ... but I deemed it worth it.

My parents requested that I gave my little sister my 2016 Nissan Versa when she got her license so my dad doesn't go out and spend way too much money on some ridiculous car to give a 16 year old. I got that car initially because I thought I wouldn't be making as much money as I do (just got to my first duty station around that time before all my entitlements/allowances) and I found a relatively cheap daily driver with good gas mileage. Decided I could afford more on a car and asked my friend what is the best car for $35-50K and he sent me some options. Fell in love with the car after the reviews, had a lot of space without being a crossover, quick and fun to drive, and an attention grabber without paying the premium for something like an Audi or BMW. Went back home to drop off the Nissan to my sister and took my dad to a Kia dealership to see our options. They had a sunset yellow that I wanted, but it wasn't allowed to be sold because of the paint problems. Ended up getting the ceramic silver RWD with LSD and safety stuff for a good deal and haven't looked back since.

Lot's of discussion on this already... but best bang for the buck all around in my opinion.

So your family member needing a car and your friend's advice led you to the Stinger. Nice!

Went back 11 pages in the Community Lounge and the closest thing I saw were:
"What do you love most about your Stinger and maybe not so much?"
"Upgraded from..."

Not the same thing, or what I was looking for.

Thanks for replying anyways.

@19GT-AWD , wasn't implying you should search for the thread...just saying lots of discussion on this. ;)

And... best bang for the buck is what most everyone will probably state in one way or another.

Oh...and you're welcome!!

the Stinger GT2 will rape on the drag race any stock Mustang except the performance versions, that in itself is a powerful reasons, ironic that the Korean muscle car raping Mustangs right and left

Long time buyer of 2-3 year old mostly high end cars, got tired of off warranty repairs, decided to go new. At the price point, best deal out there for performance, capability, style.

I always enjoy repeating my "seduction story". :p

A slot car racing friend tossed the Stinger promo book at me and walked away laughing after he said, "Here is your next new car." That was funny to say because I never drove a new car. "Yeah, sure, whatever you say," I said or words to that effect. And I took the promo book home and put it in the bathroom. Closest thing to porn in the bathroom I ever did. That book is very well done. Too well done. That I slowly started to entertain that it was truthful is kind of weird. I wasn't even thinking of buying another vehicle, much less a new one (never did before). The winter of '18 saw me pouring over that promo book, until I took a road trip in March down to TX to see my ailing daughter-in-law (cancer; she died of it one month later): that trip had an effect on my outlook, I suppose. I went on the 23rd of March and took a test drive in a Black GT2. And on the 26th I bought a Stinger. It's been my favorite material thing for over a year now. I love driving it, even just sitting in it is a joy. And it is everything the promo book hyped. I didn't know that I wanted to take long road trips in a Gran Turismo that can go faster than 150 MPH (which I have done), and especially accelerate to shut down anything about to get in my way. Aha, what a satisfaction.

Where did you have the opportunity to go 150? I’ve never had mine over 100.

Oops, should've gone in "Kia Stinger Talk".

Mods, feel free to move thread there if you wish.

A 10 year warranty on a car is rare, and on a car of this type nearly unheard of and unbeatable.

Friends. It's always the friends!

Very sorry for your loss.

Where did you have the opportunity to go 150? ...

Why, "Mexico" of course!

This is my second favorite story. But the abbreviated version is: last July, coming down through central OR, I discovered myself all alone on Hwy 95 and stopped in the middle of the road and did half a dozen accelerations (including my first two or three rather clumsy launch control starts); then took the speed up all the way to 155. It turned out that the traffic was held back several more miles ahead (to the south), thus freeing me up to "play".

Man...I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere, absolutely do not miss it. But I sure do miss driving in the middle of nowhere.

My reasons for getting it included a car that combined all the things I want (power, looks, exclusivity, driving dynamics, moddability) with needs (practical, 4-season driveability). 20 years ago, I hit a particular milestone, and after much research, picked up a '99 Honda Prelude Type SH (I still have it). Last night, nearing another milestone, and again after much research, I picked up my '19 Stinger GT1. My wife calls it a "midlife crisis" car...she may be right. :D

If she is, you're way early to succumb to midlife. Or, I am way late.:geek:

Ok you’ve added to the intrigue. I have yet to use launch control. Can you describe what you mean by 3 clumsy launch controls. What were you doing incorrectly?

First mistake: I was still in manual gate, i.e. shifting for myself. So when I released the brake it red lined instantly and upshifted. I thanked the car for saving itself from me! :p (I found out later that there is virtually no possibility of harming our engines, we can't over-rev in other words; the car won't let us: and besides, Kia tested this engine for 12.5 days at red line, only replacing the oil; then another bunch of hours at 15% past red line; so a bounce off the red line isn't going to do a thing.) Then I found out the second time (no longer in manual gate) that I wasn't jamming the go pedal all the way to the floor (still not trusting myself with this thing). The third attempt went okay, I guess. But I felt that "me do it meself" was working better for me: i.e. use auto hold, plant my left foot on the dead pedal; position my right foot perfectly over the gas pedal, take a cleansing breath or two and smoothly and quickly press down all the way, shifting just before 6K RPM each time. That felt right. I've hardly tried launch control since then, maybe a couple of times; and keep forgetting something; either to turn TSC off first, or to keep the trans in automatic (I like to drive in Sport and manual gate; it's almost a habit).

Ok, good to know. My biggest concern is traction since you have to turn all of the safeties off. How was your grip? Did you go squirrely at all?

AWD is never squirrely. So far. :D I've never had a burnout or had the back end hang loose, not even with TSC off and in Sport (80% power to the rear). I'm not saying it isn't done. Just that I've never done it, nor care to, thanks.

Launch Control is all about letting the car feed the right amount of power to avoid "squirrely". It eliminates human error, in theory anyway.
