Hey Guys!

I'm back already (mostly by popular demand in our catch can thread;)) to kick off our development thread on our performance intercooler kit! We're still a ways off from having the full kit, but this thread will be a repository for all things Mishimoto intercooler, and you have the pleasure (or agony for those who are impatient like me :p) of following along with our intercooler development it real time. That being said, I'll make sure to give you guys a peek behind the curtain here once we have any updates for you!

Currently, we're still in the design phase, and just last week, the engineer on this project, Dan, created a full scan of the available space for a hefty new core.

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more updates to come!

As always, feel free to shoot me any comments, questions or concerns!

I look forward to this. Feel free to send me a tester kit. I’ll be happy to run daily driving tests and drag strip tests. Lol. Best of luck!

Nick tell Dan and the Mishimoto team to get their sh#t together and build this intercooler asap. I expect no vacation time taken and overtime hours put on this project.

I am joking but seriously I am looking forward for this intercooler. Been a Mishimoto customer for 8 years now. I currently run Mishimoto Intercooler, catch can, and radiator on my Turbo IS 300, which I had for 6 years now and never had any issues with the parts.

I was looking into purchasing a universal intercooler from you guys, but I wasn't sure which one would be a great fit... Or would you recommend waiting in your kit specifically for the stinger. Thank you!

You can make an universal one fit. You just need to make a custom bracket to hold it that's all.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I'll definitely keep you in the loop! We actually bought our own Stinger to make development and testing much easier, but track testing is always something that we try to incorporate if we can. I'll be sure to send you a PM once we're closer to the testing phase and if we want to see how this performs on the strip! I see you're in NJ, which strip do you usually go to?

Haha trust me when I say, Dan is just as eager to get started!

Also, we're always glad to hear from a happy customer! Thanks so much!

What @Angel said! We do have plenty of universal options to choose from if you're in need of an intercooling solution much sooner. I can definitely say that it will be worth the wait since we're designing a unit specifically with the 3.3T in mind to optimize flow and heat dissipation. Just to tease you guys some more, and also give you a look at the sort of lengths we take in the name of product development, Dan is not only drawing inspiration from our CTR/Civic intercoolers, but is also the mastermind behind them.

I'm just as excited to see what Dan comes up with for the new kit!

hopefully it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but I've been waiting for manufacturers like yourselves to produce more parts for the Stinger since I've mostly had JDM cars and have used your products in past builds including my Z and G.

I would be interested in a Mishimoto oil cooler/intercooler combination!

Sounds like it's in the early stages. You must have an idea on what Cort you want to keeep it under. ?

Any time line? Month? Year?

We do intend on keeping the pricing competitive, but more details on that will come once we're closer to launch!

Definitleyy looking forward to seeing an intercooler on your Stinger ;) As for the oil cooler, we don't have any plans just yet for a direct fit kit, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities!

Nothing set in stone just yet, I would love to be able to provide a more definitely timeline, but I wouldn't want to give out a timeline that's subject to change. I'll be able to give you guys something more concrete once we move further into the project. It'll definitely be worth the wait!

Hey Nick!

Nick here from...wait for it...Morimoto! lol

Excited to see what you guys bring to the market!

"Hefty"... That word concerns me because the extra weight is right at the very nose of the car which is THE worst place to add weight to a car in general, lol

I'm looking forward to showing you guys what we come up with!

Extra weight is expected when it comes to upgrading air-to-air intercoolers, and right there in the front is the best option for placement. It's a bit of a balancing act, since bar-and-plate cores have substantially better heat dissipation properties than the stock tube-and-fin unit, but the trade off is the added weight. However, in most cases the added weight is negligible, especially when it comes to the cooling that it provides to the system. True, in something already super lightweight there would be a bit of a difference, but the Stinger is already really good at gracefully moving all of that weight around and we expect our kit to help out with that even more ;)

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Guys!

Happy Friday! Just wanted to stoke the flames here a bit with a tease of what was going on out in the shop today ;)

Air to water IC hopefully! We already have a few air to air options.

I dunno, a custom intake charge pipe isn't exactly stoking anything for me

Nick (@Mishimoto): Have you guys done any measurements on the efficiency of the stock intercooler, so that you have before and after information on your product?

Air to water IC hopefully! We already have a few air to air options.

A WAIC would be interesting indeed. You can get some serious efficiency gains here - water has a specific heat rating about 4 times that of air (meaning it can absorb 4 times as much energy for the same temperature increase).

Of course, nothing comes free - a WAIC is much more complex, and with complexity comes expense and higher risk of failure (there are no moving parts in an air-to-air intercooler, which is one of the benefits it provides - basically zero maintenance, and nothing to "stop working" unless you physically compromise the unit).
