• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I just thought I'd share this from the technology forum because I just tried it on my Aussie Stinger and the access to Engineering Mode worked. I had a quick look and there's definitely some interesting settings and adjustments in here...
The video below shows how to gain access - you basically just go to the screen saver settings, touch the bottom of the screen in 3 locations (left corner, centre, right corner) starting at the left and do 7 touches. It then brings up a code to enter and this is simply the time showing on the clock (eg 08:28 so code is 0828).

I saw this a few months ago. I'm on 12.5 and I wasn't able to get the engineering mode to show up with the tap sequence.

I could be an idiot though, if any US Stingers on 12.5 manage to get it to show up, that'd be cool.

Edit: I watched his videos, you can see the tap sequence of him going into engineering mode here. You need to navigate to the screensaver options and do the 7 taps. If anyone on 12.5 wants to try, let me know if it works. My car is going to be in the shop for a few weeks. Starts at 2:30.

How do you check the software version, this didn’t seem to work for me.

I can play around with it at lunch. I've always wondered about it! I wish I had seen this when I had my Optima!

KIA's "KGIS" site is littered with "engineering mode" references but no real info on what you can change. I'll keep searching!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I saw this on FB last week. Over the weekend I tried the sequence shown at the 1 minute mark probably 30 different times. no dice for me. For those that get it to work please tell us what software version you have and what model / stereo system you have.

I am starting to wonder if this is one of those trolling things that just has us poking at our screens like monkeys for 20 mins

Without a doubt, but I like poking around in my car. Haha

No it isn't. My Subaru had a weird button press sequence too. You look like an idiot but it works.

Thankfully my garage door was closed when I tried, it would have been awfully embarrassing if someone had noticed me using my infotainment system in public!

I thought all north detroiters left their doors open

We do unless we're doing embarrassing things in our garage ;) ... or if our garage is embarrassing...

Alright, I got into Engineering Mode/Dev Mode. There are endless menus to sift through

System Settings>System Info: TAP 10 times quickly, where the vertical line hits the bottom of the screen and then tap once on the lower far right of the screen.

You need to be careful, it's not a forgiving system. It's very "engineer" like and is not user friendly. Tap once, and wait...you do not want to tap and then tap again, it might load the screen and you change something. This Dev mode is hard to navigate and seems like a few booby traps are in the system, there is no simply reset here. Surf with great care

There are some menus that do not have back buttons, so you have to press the little reset button to reset the AVN.

There are a few locked menus, however I believe there is another way to get into those. Camera settings, radio and a few other things you can change. I have not changed anything, simply since I don't know what the outcome will be. There's alot of Korean language (see below). The most interesting menu is "Vehicle Settings" which is locked, won't load. I'm not sure if that menu is locked permanently, or you need the KIA computer hooked up to the vehicle. I will continue to poke around. I'm betting that is where the drive modes, and other dynamic settings are located.

Download Google Translate so you can read some of the menu items...I'm not going to "root" mine, I don't need YouTube or games on it. I am more curious about adding/adjusting things in the vehicle.

The fact that the modem menu exists gives me hope that it could be added later for US owners.

It's the struggle of having the cell coverage and the application for the US vehicles.

Yes I realize that but I'm hopefull it's something they will be able to add to existing cars if they start offering it in the US. They already have it on some Kia's and I know Hyudai's have it too which is the same company.

True! I wonder if the "modem" is the same for all cars

I would image it all connects the same to the car and the only difference would be what cell network it connects to. I would image Kia has to have some kind of agreement with the cell providers and then it might all come down to just which sim card is in the modem device. This is all speculation I don't know exactly how the wireless services work in cars but that's my best guess with my 30 year background in IT.

Just confirming that the "tap 10 times" method worked for me

Ok so for the Aussie Stinger owners - my car is up to date with it's firmware and map versions etc. The process I described in the first post definitely works - screen saver settings, 7 taps, enter time as the passcode.
Our AV system is different to the US, so it seems we have different options available in engineering mode... there are lots of various screens and buttons but here are some images I just took of a few of the screens I found:
