• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

FUMOTO OIL DRAIN VALVE discount offer

There are also people who change oil more frequently than the dealership service interval. I am one of those people.

An oil tap also makes it a lot easier to collect an oil sample if you're doing oil analysis (which I will be doing as well).

Every dealer is different. Mine is pretty good but once before when I had my Optima the previous dealership made a real mess of the oil change and it went all offer the underbody scuff cover. I don’t want that risk so $60 for the valve is a no brainer and the service guys don’t have to take the scuff cover off as I have asked them to do at my dealership. My car is well looked after there so I’m happy and the cost difference is minimal. My 12 month dealers service is $252.
I'm probably on better terms with service guys than most as I'm allowed in workshop to observe, ask questions, and they explain what's going on. Even had an opportunity to clean inside of rims last time Stinger was on hoist. Just don't tell their insurance company!

Or Workcover....lol

Of course these are useful for people who change their oil between services etc but spending money on anything to make life easier for a dealership to take your money? Makes no sense to me. There's also no justifying a $250 oil change unless you're using Amsoil Signature.

Each to his own I guess my preference I’m sticking to it.
Besides I’m doing it for me not the dealership.

Has nobody around here ever changed their oil?

$60 oil, $30 filter and washers, half hour of your time ($10 for an apprentice)? What's that so far? $100. So your "capped" oil change is already $152 too much. And that's retail prices. Sorry, of course there are other costs involved like shop consumables so we'll add $5 worth of shop towels, $5 rubber gloves, $2 degreaser, $8 electricity for the lift and a $20 uber to dump it at the tip.

If it makes you happy knowing the dealership benefits from you investing in a sump valve then fair enough.

Do it yourself void your warranty and possibly miss any kia tsb faults that need to be fixed like map updates all of which are free. Go right ahead and do it yourself. Not all dealerships are out to get you, at least not here in Perth.

Of the 20+ vehicles I've had I've changed oil a number of times (outside of a workshop) and also when I had unrestricted use of a workshop however I no longer have that availability and as much as I would like to install a 4 post hoist in my unit complex Strata will not allow it. Go the dealer everytime particularly when the cost is capped. I couldn't do a proper 10k service/check without a hoist.

Lol... You don't void your warranty by changing your oil. And you don't need a hoist to inspect the car.

Dealerships make their money through predelivery sales and servicing. Of course they're out to get you!

If you're going in for a logbook to retain your warranty and peace of mind then sure.

What we were originally talking about though is this valve and why the hell you'd put one on if you're not actually going to use it regularly yourself.

It's not about who's right or wrong here it's a choice. I have the money to pay someone to do It for me, my choice. Also i want the valve on there regardless. I'm happy with my service centre. I'm not going to get into a tennis match over this. Hope your next oil change goes well.

My Stinger was filled with Magnatec Pro also, so I assume this is ok?

And yes, I’d rather pay to get it changed than do it myself. I couldn’t be bothered.

If you swap to a fumoto do you need to change the washer the one that comes with each filter?
