I’ve purchased a 2018 3.3T GT2 on April 7th. Needless to say, I have been hovering around the forum for little while to figure out what I might want to do with this car. To provide a lil more insight, my current roster is a Audi A8L, MDX-SH, and a GTR. The stinger will be my DD and it replaced my heavily modified Civic SI.
Where do I start? Considering my Civic ended up pushing 336hp & 346tq, the GT2 really needed to be compelling. And from the test drive, the GT2 base was very satisfying where there is really no comparison between displacement. 1.5L vs. 3.3L.
After so further research, I realized that although there was a decent amount with price. The GT2 is a very compelling upgrade in every way especially if you can get over the name “Kia”. I have never owned a Kia nor a Korean vehicle before, and I must say that I a deeply impressed. The quality overall is quite good and while the looks is very subjective. Let’s just say it’s not an ugly car.
As for the drive, I would say overall it is quite good. I believe the gas pedal and the brakes took a couple days to get used to. However, I can’t say the same for steering. I haven’t truly been able to pin point the exact disconnect. However, the steering just doesn’t seem as refine as other vehicles even when comparing to a regular Honda.
Step 1 – Mods. The first mod was to give it more power. I reside in California and we here have some very tough restrictions. And especially as of current of how aggressive the law enforcements have been flagging down motorist. It’s best we keep it as stealth as possible. My first mod is to give it more power by ECU mods. There are a host of options out there but I ended with RaceChip. RaceChip, you really need to do a better job with your naming convention. By going with this piggyback flash mod, you get 7 maps right off the bat. Additionally, you also get super great support from RaceChip. I can not confirm the output numbers and all I can do is confirm by feel. Needless to say, it is stronger. The pulls are more aggressive and the car feels much more responsive. Im debating about the XLR / pedal sensitivity adjustment. That particular mod is not as compelling.
Traditionally, I would go down the line and start to mods the exhaust, CAI and a etc… However, I am quite satisfied with this PnP.
With all this being said, I did have to upgrade and regap my sparkplugs. I would say if you have ever changed a tire, you would be able to perform this upgrade as long as you are careful and you much have the correct tools. I’m not going into details, but it is quite straight forward.
Feel free to hit me up with any questions, but stay tuned for my Vlog…
