3.3TT Review of Jonny Tig and their Intercooler

Wow. Ok to set a few things straight. We have many many customers and our business is growing very fast. We dont build mass produced junk, everything is built individually by hand which does take time. I apologize if your emails were not addressed immediately, we have so many to reply to. We do our best. As for clamps? Our competion guys run these exact clamps at over 50psi without problem. T bolt clamps are a waste of time as the purchase area is too wide. Pretty simple physics.
Im sure your Stinger isnt pushing more than 20psi?
We cant offer instructions for US cars on the cooler as it is different to Aus cars. The mounting of the cooler is TOTALLY different to what we have in Australia. In regards to the cooler being behind the intrusuon bar, I guess that means your radiator and AC condensor are no good either ‍♂️
The tow hitch is sometimes needed to be trimmed back, sometimes it doesnt. Depends how far the boys at Kia stuck it through when it was welded in place. I could spend all day replying to messages but then fabrication time suffers even more. We have a full time person on emails and its still not enough.
James Christianson more than happy to refund you mate. Your kits just about to come back from coaters but all good. We have close to 70 kits on order atm.

Also cant give a discount if the powder coaters were overloaded, I asked they told me to not a chance DaJackson.
As mentioned we are doing the best we can with the labour we have. Guess we wouldnt have so many orders if our products were so crap hey‍♂️

Kind regards Jon

No one said your products were junk and the issue isn’t that your products take time to build. It’s that you say it will take 3 weeks and it takes 11. Or you say it will be shipped tomorrow and it doesn’t ship for another 3 week.

I apologize if your emails were not addressed immediately, we have so many to reply to. We do our best.

Timeliness of the replies isn’t the big issue.

Cool, in this application with powder coated pipes they didn’t hold. Upgrading to better worm clamps has held fine. I didn’t use T-Bolt.

Tash told me multiple times you were working on instructions. Good to know he was wrong.

In regards to the cooler being behind the intrusuon bar, I guess that means your radiator and AC condensor are no good either ‍♂️

I don’t think this was addressed to me as I don’t care that it’s partially behind the crash bar.

The tow hitch is sometimes needed to be trimmed back, sometimes it doesnt. Depends how far the boys at Kia stuck it through when it was welded in place.

Again when I asked about this I was told it needed to be trimmed.

I could spend all day replying to messages but then fabrication time suffers even more. We have a full time person on emails and its still not enough.

You having too much work is not your customers problem. Also when the replies you send are wrong, that’s not a result of too much work.

Also cant give a discount if the powder coaters were overloaded, I asked they told me to not a chance DaJackson.
As mentioned we are doing the best we can with the labour we have.

This is my biggest issue. I ordered from you, you chose to outsource a part of the production. If that person drops the ball you are responsible for that. I don’t have any relationships with that person. It’s the same as if one of your employees screwed something up, you wouldn’t tell the customer that you can’t do anything because someone else screwed up would you?

Guess we wouldnt have so many orders if our products were so crap hey‍♂️

Again no one is complaining that your products are crap. Your communication and the timelines that you give customers are.

I created this post so people would know what they are getting into when ordering from you. If your philosophy is that you have so many orders that it really doesn’t matter if some people are unhappy they will just be replaced by the next in line then people need to know that going in.

Vendors... underpromise and overdeliver. We don't care if you are busy if you say you are busy. People will wait for good stuff if that is what they expect.

I don't have a dog in this fight as my intake came from BMS and I have no intentions of getting an intercooler today. Having said that, JT's response to seemingly valid customers' complaints is not what I would expect from someone trying to "grow" a business. Maybe they are having a sale on excuses Down Under? I'm still trying to figure out why the only source for a discount would be the powdercoaters....

I only got annoyed after I sent two emails and didn’t get a response for over a week. I think that’s reasonable.

I then tried and got a response on fb messenger and I’m fine waiting again.

I just wish I would have been told 2-3 months from the beginning instead of 2-3 weeks.
I still would have placed the order but I would have adjusted my expectations and been happier while I waited.

I had nothing but good communication with Tash and JT regarding the first group discount, be it email or phone conversations. I had to cancel my order thought at the time due to the shipping/exchange rate cost to Canada was out of my range and other things creeped up that need to be a priority. Sometimes good things take time. But i do agree communication is key, and using this forum might be best to keep all in the loop.

If placing an order involves an email address and/or phone number, then one or both of those methods would be best to keep all in the loop. The people who have ordered parts and are waiting are the only ones who are important. And then they can share their experiences.

That is not a good comparison. The condenser/radiator sit fairly far from the intrusion bar and the air entering from both the lower and upper grills are forced through them via the plastic shroud. Almost a third of your intercooler sits right behind the intrusion bar, very unlikely any air will pass through it, and if no air is passing through it there wont be any heat exchange. I think a thicker intercooler core up to the intrusion bar will probably do a better job. All the released aftermarket intercoolers so far (CX, Agency, Ultimate) have all made there intercoolers extend up to and not behind the intrusion bar for the same reasons.

Since I’ve had the Jonny Tig intercooler on the car for a few weeks now I figured I’d give my review of the product and the company.

First off I heard a lot of praise for the JT parts when doing research. After a few answers from Tash at JT I decided to place my order. Then I had to wait, and wait.

Below is an outline of the communication on my order.

11/21 - Order placed. Told it would ship in 3 weeks

11/28 - Ask for install instructions

11/29 - Told there are no instructions to share but Jonny will get to it.

12/2 - Sent a You Tube video that does little more than say “remove bumper, install intercooler”

12/12 - Ask for a status update

12/17 - Told the pipes are just about done but the powder coater closes 12/21 for the holiday and doesn’t open again till 1/7

1/9 - Ask for a status update

1/14 - Told the pipes should be back today or tomorrow and then it will ship.

1/22 - Ask for a tracking number

1/22 - Told the powder coater is backed up, hope to have it by the end of the week.

1/29 - Ask for an update

1/29 - Told it will ship tomorrow

1/31 - Ask for tracking number

2/3 - Ask for tracking number

2/3 - Sent tracking number

In the end it took 75 days or nearly 11 weeks for my order to ship when I was originally told it would be 3 weeks.

When it would be shipped was changed 4 different times.

At one point I asked for some kind of compensation for the lengthy delays and was told “Unless the powder coating company gives us discount for them dragging their feet I cannot afford to offer a discount for something we haven’t been in control of” Needless to say I never got a follow up on if the powder coater offered a discount.

As for the quality of the IC itself everything looked fine and it was packaged well for the long trip from AUS. However the clamps included in the kit are pretty cheap and I had a charge pipe blow off after a few days. I replaced it with a better clamp and haven’t had any issues.

As mentioned before the kit comes with no instructions. I had heard that the tow hook threads on the crash bar had to be cut for fitment, however we didn’t have to do that. Did we install it incorrectly or did they change the design? Without instructions how are we to know?

I didn’t notice any dramatic butt dyno power increase but that’s not really the point of an IC. It’s not really been hot enough here yet to really feel any improvement in heat soak.

Overall as the most expensive IC on the market right now with terrible customer service and follow through, I really don’t recommend anyone purchasing this IC

Unless you are planning on pushing significant HP (more than what current high HP cars are pushing now) any of the other ICs on the market will suffice.

I know the JT fanboys will come in and say all their parts are the best ever. But I wanted to share my experience.

I had pretty much the exact same experience.
The same lack of response, missed ship dates, excuses and plenty of waiting.
I think it took about 12 weeks to get my kit.
I did already install the intakes which went OK, except they forgot to add the mounting holes to one of the airbox covers.
Luckily for me, i was previously a machinist and i was able to get on a man mill at work and put in the holes myself - otherwise what was i going to do, send it back to Stralia???
I will be installing the intercooler this weekend, hopefully that will go well.
There are no instructions and my email to Jonny Tig went unanswered, believe it or not.
I'm just hoping they sent me all the pieces and that they have all the necessary features.

Tell someone 3 weeks they place the order. Tell them 11 they go elsewhere.

Lying to the customer sounds like a quality business strategy.

Let just say Aussie customer service leaves a bit to be desired.:(

It'll be straight forward for you. You may, or may not, need to trim the back side of the tow hook mounting tube. The top reinforcements go under the radar sensor. The radar sensor bolts right back, but of course the 3rd bolt no longer lines up. You have to install the nutserts - my buddy just so happened to have the tool. I opened the holes in the mount tabs a few steps - they drilled the holes precisely the size of the bolts, which didn't give the necessary wiggle room. You reuse the first OE tube coming out of the merge pipe. I spent maybe 15 minutes swapping adapters and tubes around until I got a fit that I liked.
And I do recommend getting better clamps.

I don't understand all the gripes. This is pretty good for this kind of part, and exceptional given the size of the shop. Hell, I have to re-machine every single part I get from Edelbrock for my Oldsmobile. They do big runs of those parts and still can't get them right. Critical machined edges aren't straight, bolt holes aren't in the right place, etc.

Thanks for the post.
