Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

Build quality on Stinger is very disappointing...
after 2 months of ownership, the vehicle started to make noise from all closures including sunroof(must be from the seals rubbing against each other), floor where I rest my feet started to make squeaky noise, rear hatch rattling....
I was driving my girlfriend's 2 year old Chevy Cruze today and that car has no noise problem at all...
Look at all the posts about "no issues", "no noise". You got a crappy one.:(

Bring it in and make them fix it. Twofold: Yours is then fixed and costing Kia money gives them incentive to get it right the first time.

Rear Hatchback is fixed via TSB, tell your dealer.
For the sunroof, see this posts in this thread by WestcoastGT

Just an update that the "clip" the dealer ordered, supposedly to fix the noise, did not fix the noise. I promptly found within a few blocks of the dealership that the noise persisted. I promptly returned to work and booked another visit for Friday with a loaner vehicle for them to try again...lol.

At least I didn't find anything wrecked on my car, unlike some people have had, so there's that.

So glad Im just getting the GT and not GT1 or 2 lol

I had read about sunroof noises prior to my purchase, but I didn't let it hold me back for 2 reasons. 1. I thought I would play luck of the draw, and lost. 2. The (Canadian 5 year comprehensive) warranty means I can keep fighting to make it right, because when it is finally quiet (and it will be), I really enjoy having an open top for summer. This is why I am fighting it hard in the infancy of this problem, it is harder for Kia to sluff it off as nothing considering I only have 6200kms and the car is still "new." If it was 4 years old and I was trying this, I imagine they would try harder to make excuses that it is because of normal wear and tear.

Whatever floats your boat. I for one am excited to try the JB4 tuner. Man this car is going to be a beast

Whats a TSB? I can hear a thump from the rear hatch when going over larger bumps but otherwise its a quiet ride. Should I be taking it to the dealer?

Except the fix doesn't really fix the problem...at least not permanently.
easy fix with a couple of washers and a hex wrench ..........................

You added more washers to the official fix washers?
Yes , thats what we have all determined , their fix only gets it half done ....................

Since the weather warmed up the last couple weeks (70F and sunny), I noticed slight creaking from the sunroof when closed if the car had been setting in the sun awhile. I think I opened the sunroof once just to test it since I got the car in January. The sound was coming from the front and occurred kind of randomly as I drove over my crappy Iowa rural road to my house. Before I washed and waxed yesterday, I opened the sunroof and checked the front rubber stripping. There appeared to be at least some factory lube on it, but I ran my finger over it just to ensure it was evenly spread. Today I went on a 100+ mile mixed driving loop (about 70deg F out), some with sunroof open/tilted, but mostly closed, and didn't notice any unusual sounds. I hope in my case the stripping just needed a little workout to seat better against the glass. I'll still bring it up to the dealer when I take it in for service.

Seemingly a common issue (when closed) of Hyundai Sonata with panoramic sunroof. You can visit Sonata forum to read about the complaints and frustrations from many owners. Not sure if this is also a common problem with Optima's pano roof. I think this may be one of the reasons why Hyundai dropped pano roof altogether on 2018 Sonatas. Having said that, I understand Stinger will not get a pano sunroof but the form-factor and how it operates (the glass panel portion raises and slides back on top of the roof) really looks awfully like the one in the Sonata and Optima. If I am paying at Stinger price point I do not want to hear popping or creaking sound at any speeds. Especially, if the source of the noise is only less than a foot from your ears. Please share your experience about this issue.
Hello,
I have 7 month old Stinger GT with Just on 7000km on the clock .Unfortunately I had this problem start around 2 months into owning the car. the rattling only happened when sunroof was closed and was far worse if you left the car out in the sun for long period during the day. I hesitated whether or not to take it in and get it looked at & repaired.. but it was really bugging me out AUD$60,000 car should not being doing that.. It is a recognised problem. Dealership told me there was a fix for this & that it would take no more then up to 2 days to rectify it. . Unfortunately the job was bigger then they thought and took just over 2 weeks for my car to come back It had to be sent to a 'specialist body shop', Everything had to come our from glass panel, roof liner, pillar moldings & door seals. "this really concerned me as nothing is ever the same as a factory install. Finally got the call that the car was ready so I nervously drove to dealer get my baby back. When I got there I gave the car a good inspection & unfortunately there was further damage done to my interior! . Centre console was dented, both rear inner door seals were cut, rear left seat had 2 dents in the leather after some moron had left something in between while backrest was down and to top it off the windscreen had to be replaced because they damaged the upper rubber seal around it .. Now from 2 weeks it ended up in to 5 weeks as the car had to go back to panel shop repair All the damage they caused. I finally got my car back & unfortunately I now am experiencing all sorts of new noises inside the cabin. The car is going back so we can determine what the f#ck is going on now. This has ruined my whole experience of owning this car which drives like a beast but refinement is not in KIA's DNA. I am now looking at Legal action to get a refund as this car is not the same car I purchased any more. If anyone can help me out on this it would be very much appreciated.
Pete

all I can tell you is I had a very bad creaking sound from the sunroof and after several dealer visits I was able to prove where it came from and they decided to replace the sunroof frame , yes they scratched some paint on the roof , tore the rear hatch seal and scratched a internal door panel BUT the car is now silent and all repairs , roof paint , door panel and rear hatch seal are scheduled for next week ............they have a Global system for issues so they knew what your problem was and how to fix it .................sounds like they tried the fix with yours but the crew working on it were a bit too rough , easy to miss clips etc during reassembly which might be the cause of the new noises .............sorry to hear this .................

That sucks man! Mine is scheduled in next month for five days to have the sunroof inspected/fixed. Makes me not want to go ahead with the fix anymore! I don't see why it had to go to a body shop when the fix seems to be replacing the roof frame? What dealer did this if you dont mind me asking?

Pete, what a nightmare you've done well to ķeep it together. I'd defintely be asking for a new car. Its to much to pay for this headache.

My takeaway from this thread: Get the cheaper GT version without the sunroof.

Sure, but then you don't get the nicer Harman Kardon stereo to drown out the noises!
