Road/tire noise.

I really couldn't tell any difference between the GT and GT2 as far as noise goes. They sounded the same to me. I changed from the Michelins to the Nitto Motivos and that did quiet the car down even more. I think tires have a lot to do with it, that and road surface.

I thought I was the only one with the problem. I put it in cruise control and you can feel it pulsing. It is not steady. Constant forward motion then back as if you were giving it gas and letting off every second. Is there any other people that have this.
yeah the CC surges when going up an incline. I have 3k miles and it's definitely not nearly as bad as when I got the car (which wasn't that bad to start with). I can still feel it when I really pay attention, no one else can and it doesn't bother me.

I am curious, is it "surging" or "pulsing". 2 different things, no? Surging to me means that it revs high to make it up the hill and could go over your pre-set speed. Pulsing to me means accelerating and slowing down constantly, back & forth. That would probably drive me nuts, and I like to use the cruise as soon as I get on the highway. Only thing that helps me from getting speeding tickets.

Oh heck yes. I set my cruise at under ten (9 above); a margin for error. Other than that, I have no use for CC.

I thought I've read some where that the overall loudness of the car is different on the different trims, due to different amount/type of insulating material?
Not that I've read/heard. My understanding is that the trims are identical other than engine size and stated differences in the brochure. Some things (like lower top speed for 18" rim AWD top speed) are not mentioned in the brochure but are on Kia's website. Insulation is nowhere mentioned as "delux" for higher trims.

Exactly what I do, and being an ex-LEO (most Troopers in my state don't care though ) I can tell you this method is bulletproof for the most part, unless you are doing it in an unsafe manner like for example going 9 mph over through a busy intersection, in which case you can get a ticket for "failure to reduce speed at intersection", and other violations depending on your state's Motor Vehicle code (and what mood the officer is in, which sometimes is a factor unfortunately). Other than special circumstances, they will only give you a ticket if you are going at least 10mph over on most highways.

Going through some towns at 9 mi. over can be tricky though if you are not familiar with their practices. Certain small towns and some in the middle of nowhere it highly depends on the judge(s) how/when they issue speeding tickets. Some towns survive on the revenue that is generated from tickets (town gets a cut and the rest goes to the state), which also pays for the judge's salary. So in some towns judges will accept speeding tickets that are 1-9mph over, and the local cops are instructed to issue them. It really is up to the judge, and it's a money game. The DA will offer you to pay a ticket with no points for twice the amount $$, vs. a speeding ticket that could be several points on your license, carrying half the monetary penalty.

It can also go the other way. From talking to some Troopers in my area a few years ago, I discovered that they will not ticket you unless you are going 80 on the 65 zone (but they will still ticket you going 10 over on a 55mph zone) going through my town, because of new younger judges and their "rules". But judges in surrounding towns still follow the 10 over rule. I don't trust this though and not being sure what judge presides where or if they have been re-elected, I still set the CC at 64 or 74 on the highway depending on the speed limit.

I have never used CC through an intersection that I recall. When I am in town I drive the car; only on the open highway do I use cruise, or between traffic stops when they are spaced far apart and I want to make sure that my 9 over stays that way (most often when I have just manually shifted under full acceleration from "pole position" and the temptation to creep back to more than 10 over is strong: drop to 9 over and put it in CC. :D

I have only received one speeding ticket for exactly 10 over, and that was on Hwy 89 heading out of Utah into Arizona; that long right hand curve going downhill; a UHP car had it's lights on, but was too far around the bend to be seen easily in my inside rearview mirror, and was totally outside of view on my driver side rearview mirror. I had over half a dozen kids in the 15 passenger Club wagon, and the interior road noise was of course rather high level and I had my stereo on: I could not hear him. By the time I got a glimpse of his lights in my right rearview mirror I had probably been leading him for at least a couple of miles. He was annoyed and cited me for "ten over". That was accurate, since I cruised always at ten over. Eighty bucks. On the way back, I saw the exact same cop with another car pulled over on the same stretch of 89. So I think he was just an overzealous asshat.

On a Texas trip last spring (first road trip with the Stinger) I got two warnings (I've told this before but you are new). First one was on I-40 heading into TX. I was cruising 15 above at 90 MPH. He was very pleasant about warning me, and my own attitude was oh-oh, here it comes; I guess I should expect this, so I was laid back and pleasant. The rest of my few days in TX I cruised at 9 over. On my way out on Hwy 287, a good ol' boy pulled me over. WTH!? I am only doing 9 above. Nevertheless, I knew that any attitude would not help me. I saw him in the rearview mirror as he got out slowly and stood cock-hipped with his pistol grip sticking out, staring at the back of my car for about a minute; then he slowly came up alongside and drawled pleasantly, "You were going just a bit fast back there (son)". He didn't actually say "son", but I could hear it. :D He looked like he was about the age for retirement. Another warning: I kept both of them in my journal as souvenirs.

And I figured that 9 over is still safe and that is what I do. I've had yet a third warning, a couple months later, coming down Big Cottonwood canyon. At a spot where the center line is dashed, I nipped around an SUV, and as soon as I got in front of it I slowed back down to the speed limit. My brother in the passenger seat said, "That was a cop!" And he grinned. I instantly looked in the rearview mirror and the SUV roof lit up and I pulled over as fast as I possibly, safely, could. He came up to my window and his first words were, "You never pass a cop." :D

"I didn't know you were a cop," I admitted, as I fumbled to get my licence out. "I slowed back down right away. I was just making my pass quickly to safely execute it."

He nodded and said: "Nevertheless you exceeded the speed limit in doing so."

"That's true," I said, still ready to give him my licence, but he made no move to take it. "You never pass a cop," he said a second time.

"I will remember that. Don't you want to see my licence?"

"No. Have a nice day."

"You too! Thanks!"

After this third warning, I figured that these cops just wanted a closer look at my Stinger. Nevertheless, three warnings? Unheard of! Absurd! Never happened before. Maybe I am so happy in my midlife speed machine that when they walk up to the open window, and I obviously don't care, the combination of grandpa behind the wheel of a very cool, new high performance gran turismo appeals to them in some fashion.

Yep the old grandpa behind the wheel of a cool GT car trick always helps! :) That and some luck of course, which I would say you are in no shortage of :)

I am getting some road noise with some vibrations at times but I'm not too sure it matches what others are saying here. Bit of a thread revival, but I am noticing in my 2019 AWD GT1 I get a large amount of road noise on the highway, almost always between 60-80mph. From what my ears can pick up, I am not hearing this at lower speeds or driving around town. The pavement I am on is pretty good for the most part and I have not noticed this noise with other cars I have driven. There are times it seems to get a little louder on highway corners, but I don't know if it has to do with the corner or I am just hearing it differently at the time. When it gets really bad I can feel it a bit through the pedal, and it is loud enough that I will still hear it through low to medium volume music.

I got a 2019 now and am back on the 19” summers and those tires are noisy compared to the winter tires I was using, but since the 2018 wasn’t properly sealed, the noise was much louder. I got some vibrations from the rotors which has been there since the beginning however, nothing like the old car. I did change the pad at around 1200 miles, but couldn’t get the vibration to completely go away. Will probably have to get new rotors in the future.

Does the vibration only occur under braking? I'm still dealing with this issue on mine and haven't been able to nail down the root cause.

I didn't even think about the tire inflation on this one. Turns out they were at 44psi all around and the recommendation in 36 for the rears and 38 for the fronts. Got that adjusted and there is still a lot of road noise\vibration at higher speeds. Discount tire said they would balance out the wheels for me next if I still experience it, so I guess that is the next route for me.

Been there as well. Ended up taking my car to my old Honda dealer for a balance after getting new tires and being back to Kia twice for vibration. Honda was able to ALMOST eliminate anything negative I felt, but there's still a little there..

I doubt that c. 8 psi difference is going to amount to anything definite.

I've swapped tires twice in the last three weeks. The Nitto Motivo UHP A/S on the OE GT rims got replaced for a few days while I got the GT rims powder coated. So in the middle of February I was back on the Michelin summers. The very first thing I noticed as I drove away on the Michelins was a definite increase in firm ride and road noise. When I had first put the Motivos on back in October, the quieter and softer ride was instantly noticeable. Now here I was suddenly switching back to the Michelins, and the difference was even easier to detect. After the GT rims were ready and the Motivos back on them, I went and had my "summer rims" and the Michelins removed and the Motivos put back on the car. Just today, a few hours ago, I had the Motivos taken back off, since socked in winter weather is over. I was ready to compare the ride. And as before, the Michelins transmit road imperfections and the attendant noise more than the Motivos. But to me it is acceptable. All eight tires are inflated to 40 psi.

A firmer tire with stiffer sidewalls will have less roll and keep the tire more in contact with the road surface. It will also transmit more noise.

Drove my 2018 Premium Stinger from Cali to Texas and very little vibration but some/moderate road noise depending on road surfaces. In Texas stretches of I 10 were loud. Tires were showing 42 lbs in back 39 lbs in front. Very pleased with the standard all season tires.

I was thinking of switching to the Motivos when the Michelin’s wear out. Do you think they’d make good all year tires? They are All Season, correct?

Yes, UHP A/S, to be precise.
They are excellent all year tires on the Stinger.
I agree completely. I've done well over 100 MPH on both the Michelins and the Motivos. And on the freeway they felt the same to me. Cornering is less precise with the Motivos compared to the Pilot Sports. But it's still very good; only a "performance driver" would care to push the car hard enough to judge between the two. I've used an extemporaneous "skid pad" (a cloverleaf onramp) to test the differences, last fall. I'm about to do that again, now that the highs are above 40F again, and I have my Michelins back on. I'll let you know what I "feel" and how the car's speed on the "skid pad" compares to when I had the Motivos on.

The Nitto's are some really comfortable tires for the Stinger. If you don't push it hard, they are pretty good tires. They will not have the same grip level has the Michelin PS 4 and I found them slippery in the rain in corners on local streets (turns at light and intersection). My one and only snow/ice experience, left me with a wrecked Stinger, other than those things, they were pretty decent tires but not the best in the UHP AS category.
