I just completed a 1,400km drive through Australia’s high country, as you can see from the first 3 pictures, after 3 days the front of my car looks like a bugs slaughter house.

I arrived home this afternoon & gave the front the car a good soak with the hose then washed with the Protektiv Shampoo & the results in the last 3 pictures speak for themselves.

Having paint protection applied to your car has great benefits in protecting the duco from these scenarios & with ease of cleaning afterwards.

I cannot recommend having paint protection applied to your car highly enough.

Hi there @Stinger GT SS , Wow you got a huge bug collection going on there in those first three photos, lucky for that paint protection as mentioned, looks spotless after the wash, the paint protection your referring to, is it PPF or have you Ceramic Coating ? Also, the lower front spoiler lip, how is it attached , did holes have to be drilled to the underside of the front spoiler , even along the front section to secure it with screws, or whatever was used ?

The lower lip came with a fitting kit containing 14 screws & was fitted by my Smash Repairer, if you look closely at the middle is “hanging” down slightly.

On my trip I hit a road kill, a small roo, it was in the middle of my lane on a tight bend, I saw it at the last minute & I couldn’t swerve as motorcycles also appeared from the opposite direction all at the same time....I couldn’t have timed it any worse.

Anyway on a positive the aftermarket splitter took the hit, thus avoiding damage to the actual bodywork, if you zoom in on this pic you will see what I mean.

Off to the Smash Repairer tomorrow morning for assessment, I think it’s salvageable.

Yes I had the leather protection applied at the same time.
No, it does not protect against stone chips, I have a paint pen for the couple I’ve had & luckily I did not receive any this last trip.

My PPF installer said, spray Lemon Pledge (a furniture treatment) on your PPF before a road trip, and the bugs will practically fall off.

Sounds counter productive to ceramic coating haha
The ceramic coating does just that, water and bug bead off

PPF is not ceramic.
You can put ceramic over PPF, but if you didn't, wax (regular or Pledge) will do as Merlin stated.

But ppf allows for weathering and bird shit to eat through it so I can't imagine how good that lemon stuff would be for it over time.

Information is knowledge and I have to go with the fact Lemon Pledge dose contain silicon oiland other type material which can be damaging to your PPF and paint job.

I'm planning applying ceramic to my car this spring (Carpro CQuartz) since I didn't get an opportunity in the fall. I hope it will help with the terrible collection of rusty paint dust all over my white paint, orange spots everywhere. I hope the ceramic keeps it brake dust from sticking to the paint.

Good to know! I'm sure the Pledge works to make bugs "fall off"; but at what cost? He didn't say. But you did. I haven't done it yet, even though I've done three road trips since I was told about the Pledge tip. I haven't found bugs to be that hard to get off. Run through a car wash and then wipe them off, seems simple enough.

I too plan on getting ceramic on the entire car including my rims in the spring. PPF for impact protection: ceramic for paint and even PPF protection (it has to benefit the PPF's longevity), and ease of cleaning. I'm going to ask Dave's, the place that did my PPF, about their ceramic application; and if what they say sounds good, I'm in. Otherwise, I'll look around more until I find a place I feel good about. I'm not doing this myself.

I used lemon pledge to clean my bike and the bugs would come right off of it. I did not have a ceramic coatin g on it though but wouldn't think it would hurt it.

Some things you won't notice for years down the track....kinda like ethanol mixed with fuel.

I have Gyeon Synchro and the self cleaning capabilities are amazing, washing the car is a breeze.

Hey Merlin, you could do the ceramic on the PPF yourself pretty easily since there will be minimal to no pre-prep. If doing the whole car then, yes, a pro might be best since you’ll likely need at least some stage 1 prep. I did my whole car (no PPF just Ceramic) and it was just time intensive. Added some ceramic to the black vinyl roof and fin last weekend as well. Best of luck!

See, the "time intensive" bit is the deal breaker. Retired, I am, but not willing to invest that kind of time in car projects. The car IS the project: driving, cleaning, washing, getting things taken care of. If I can save time I will. And I tend to rush through things anyway; an attention span issue, I think; always have been impatient to get whatever it is I am doing DONE.

The car IS the project: driving, cleaning, washing, getting things taken care of. If I can save time I will. And I tend to rush through things anyway; an attention span issue, I think; always have been impatient to get whatever it is I am doing DONE.

I heat ya. Not quite your age but feel the pain. I have to maintain a fleet of 5 cars for the family so any extra time for Christine seems rushed.
