Took a drive down to Mexico. A Focus RS was behind me and weaving back and forth. Could see a snorkel in the front grill, and after he weaved in and out of traffic to end up in front of me, I could see/hear he had an exhaust as well.

Admittedly I knew nothing about the Focus RS.

Light went green and we both got on it. I was gaining on him and moved into the oncoming lane and pulled past and got back into our lane a few car lengths ahead of him.

Upon further investigation of the RS’s power and 1/4 mile times, (and this guy was modded to some degree) I probably shouldn’t have pulled in him the way I did.

Did he just not have the stones and let off early?

I’m in a 3.3 with a catback.

nah that sounds right. RS would take you on a dig but they can't keep up from a roll. Stock stinger will trap around 108 mph stock in the quarter, RS is just over 100. That's a pretty big difference.

The main difference is the RS are all manuals, so they're a bit slower.

I nearly bought an RS. I loved it. Just didn't feel fast enough and wasn't comfortable enough for the price tag it was demanding. Stock for stock, the Stinger would leave it.

The Stinger isn't going to serve the RS gapplesauce, they are quick.

I’m confused. You said that the Stinger would leave it, and then immediately said the Stinger wouldn’t gap the RS.

I have driven one of these also... very quick off the line with the manual trans, but didn't hold power much past 4.5K RPMs. If that vehicle was tuned it would give us a run for sure. Lightweight and powerful.

The Stinger would leave the RS, but not "gap" it severely. I don't think the Stinger would leave the RS in the dust, but it would pull away.

So, you wouldn't get gapplesauce, but you would make it to gapplebees earlier?

Often guys who “tune” their cars make them slower. Big intake without a proper tune ...lose low end torque, hence lost its only advantage off the line. Then there is street racing. 90% of people on road have no idea what they are doing and then you never know if person is 100% committed to fastest run car will make.

Common issue with the 211 E55 group. Wagon wheel crank pillows and no cooling mods. Great for a single pull then everything is heatsoaked and the “600hp” Sedan is now slower than a Honda mini van.

Tunes and mods are great, but FI cars need cooling. A huge oversight for a lot of city boi racers.

Focus RS? A different animal, the Stinger is a luxurious fast GT more refined and MORE reliable. I would never cross shopt a Focus RS with a Stinger, the Focus RS is more comparable to the new Hyundai VEloster N and Golf GTR

I don’t think you actually read the OP or subsequent follow up posts. This wasn’t about cross shopping.

Indeed and I said I personally (me) would never cross shop both.

But no one talked about cross shopping the two cars. Your comment is as relevant to the OP as saying you prefer peach pie to cherry pie.

I actually owned 2 RSs prior to my stinger. One stock and one full bolt on E30 tune. With the tune and launch control not a lot can beat it from a dig. Roll racing. Meh.

The big downfall on those cars IMO is that they tend to be picky on when they give you the full power. The overboost function is finicky and sometimes wont kick in depending on knock counts or heat.

On the track....my god. A different animal. I burned a set of super sports in 2 track days easily. The way the AWD system works is a thing of beauty and it can make any driver a track star. Needs camber out of the box but fun none-the-less.

Owned an RS before the Stinger. As alot of people says, from a dig this thing pulls HARD. But on a roll I got bodied by some stock Focus ST's... I am very happy with the Stinger and don't regret a bit :)

How did any prior owners of the RS find the quality (squeaks and rattles). I contemplated between an RS and the Stinger before getting the Stinger because I was sure with a 17K econobox interior on suspension that stiff and wheels that low profile, the RS would rattle itself apart in no time.
