Stinger GT vs Mustang GT

I wouldn't challenge a '18 GT...

Yeah, like I said, I wouldn't mess with a '18 GT :)

I'm PRETTY sure this race was with a 2017. The 2018 has a boost in power. Still, for the majority of Mustang GTs on the road - the Stinger will - well - sting them...
OK , but that was a pretty serious "spanking " ! Maybe the '18 would be closer ?

2018 Ford Mustang GT Manual Test | Review | Car and Driver

Car and Driver got the 2018 Mustang GT to 60 in 4.3 seconds. 1 tenth of a second faster than the Stinger GT. Not too shabby on the Stinger's part, I say. The quarter mile came, I think, 2 or 3 tenths of a second quicker. The Mustang is faster but Kia has sure done an amazing job with this car that's so much MORE than a Mustang...

Yeah I'm actually surprised that an almost 100 hp advantage only nets a close win for the 'Stang. Makes me wonder how much actual power the engine is making in the Stinger.

Regardless I am still am getting a stupid grin on my face every time I mash the pedal just to race to the next stop light!

1/10 faster certainly is no spanking ! well done Stinger !

We don't know by exactly how much - but the Stinger GT is definitely under rated...

This is really, really, amazing. I'm not sure the what the Mustang's weight is, but I'm guessing the Stinger is a hundred - two hundred pounds more?... And yet look what it can do, and it's a 4 door sedan! Wow. Mustang owners, not exactly the Stinger target market, but wow....

Exactly. The Mustang is - a Mustang! It's a Camaro. There's not really a whole lot TO it. The Stinger is a very comfortable, luxurious, highly versatile hatchback sedan that cruises softly and quietly when you want it to. It's more than just "a car"...

I love the stinger as much as anyone, but let's be honest here. There was one review where they clocked the stinger at 4.4 to 60 every other review has been 4.6-4.7.
For comparison the 2018 mustang GT totally stock runs the quarter mile a almost a full second faster than the stinger does. (And this is without launch control)
Stinger 1/4 mile 12.79 @ 110
Mustang GT 1/4 mile 11.87 @ 118

Running 11’s with a factory stock 2018 Mustang GT!

Also Ford is claiming the drag strip mode on the Stang will supply sub 4 second 0-60 times..

Edit. I read Sal's link. That was the manual mustang, the auto is a lot quicker...

I think with a tune the stinger will beat all stock mustangs .

This thread just kind of wreaks of bias but there's really no reason for it. You know how we're all happy that the Stinger GT is such a good deal compared to the luxury brands? Well the Mustang is the same way compared to the Stinger. It's faster and it's cheaper but the trade-off is... it's cheaper. It's just not a luxury car and that's reflected in the price. It's also short two doors and rear seats you can actually fit grown humans in. It's okay that it weighs less and is a bit quicker because that's its goal, just like the Stinger's goal is to be a better alternative to some German offerings. And since just about any car can be faster than any other car if you tune it and tack on enough mods or engine swaps that's sorta a moot point.

For me the Mustang may as well not even exist, because I need to be able to throw an eight foot long roll-up screen in my car along with a ton of audio/video gear and have you seen its trunk? It's barely better than a Camaro's. I don't even know if the rear seats fold down. In fact, the first result when I just google image searched "2018 mustang gt fold seats" was the Stinger GT with it's rear seats folded! Someone's SEO game is on point I guess.

Nice work. Pointing out the Mustang's power in it's intended glory puts things in focus. A Mustang GT (V8) starts around USD $39K, and spec it to a Stinger GT2 and we are close in price. Not quite, but close (Mustang a bit cheaper that is).

I can't believe we are discussing a Mustang vs a Kia! Ha!

I think that's the whole point. :) For the time being, the image I posted up on top is going to be true for almost every stock Mustang GT in the world. Considering how many hundreds of thousands of Mustang GTs are on the road - I find the idea of this impressive. As time goes on and more and more people buy the 2018, that will be less the case. But Kia did a great job with this car that's not only pretty darn quick, but many other things as well...
