@Never thought For sure, mechanical reliability, hands down: which the Stinger has: which is very gratifying in a first year model!

Huh? no joke, just stating facts. Russia used an internet disinformation campaign to help him get elected, those are facts based on the information gathered by every single one of our intelligence agencies, not some "conspiracy". I'm just using that instance as an example because it's probably the best one to show just how powerful disinformation on the internet is.

I've never once seen you express any positives toward the car. Every single time you post it's about how Kia cut corners, how bad a certain aspect of the car is, how some other car is better. If it looks like a troll and smells like a troll, it's probably a troll.

Have been holding my breath since reading about all the paint issues....just got my first major chip this weekend....damn it man. With a 10/17 build date was hoping to get lucky.....have almost 13k thousand miles...so maybe I am.

Depends on where that chip is located (frontal impact spots vs rear, top or sides), but one in 13,000 miles ain’t bad at all.

I would say one rock chip in 13k miles is pretty good even for perfect paint!

I don’t have any chips, same build date. Had peeling paint under the headlight and the cracked tailgate near the license plate, oh and a failed LSD. Still love this car (no sarcasm)! Where is the chip?

Is this the same issue that everyone else is seeing? I wasn't aware of the paint issue until reading this thread, but I have these dots all over my car, I've only had it for a few days and it has only 190 miles on it. No chips yet, but lots of these spots that look like bad paint / bad clear coat.

I would go back to the dealer and complain. If they give you problems, call the Stinger corporate line.

That looks more like bad clear coat. The actual paint adherence issue takes a chip clear down to the primer coat or even the metal. Look back through the thread for plenty of examples. What is your build date? We want to know: Nov/17 and Dec/17 build dates contain the majority of paint failure cases. But of course, we have other cases long after those dates.

If "all over my car" means in places where road debris cannot reach, you truly have a case that Kia will honor without argument. They've been hearing it for months. I'm sorry you have to endure this! :(

If the actual paint isn't chipping away, then this is fairly rare. I don't know what Kia does about failed clear coat. Strip and reapply? Buff and then pay for a respray of clear coat? That would be a lot less time intensive than having to respray the color. Once you've got this squared away, get PPF on pronto, and/or ceramic.

Build date: 3/2018. Hopefully this puts me out of the range of the very bad paint, but as you mentioned, people had issues with paint well after the 2017 build dates.

I was realizing now that nearly all of the Stingers that I was looking at had the paint protection package on the bumpers, provided by the dealers. I thought this was a nice touch at the time, but dealers don't usually do things for free, I'm sure they're doing this based on known paint issues in Stingers.

On my car, yes, the issues are in odd places, on the upper rear quarter panel and other places where you wouldn't expect road debris issues. Further, the surface is smooth in those spots, so there's no obvious damage or way that road debris could have caused it. Throw in that I'm only at 190 miles and have had the car for just a few days, I'd think I have a good case to present to Kia to have a body shop fix this however they can.

This does seem to be a potentially different issue than the paint chip issue that others are seeing, at least so far, but seeing the pain everyone has been through with it, I'd like to do what I can to keep the paint looking good.

My car came with the paint protection package, with Hood Film, Door Pocket Film, Bumper Applique. Where else would you recommend PPF?

If this was your car, what would you demand from the dealer? I had another issue (see my "The dealer just called" thread in the dealer section of the forums), so I'm going there tomorrow anyway to talk about the paint and to presumably sign the forms that they forgot to have me sign when I bought the car a couple days ago.

My thoughts:
- Fix all paint and clearcoat to the high level that's expected of a brand new, premium car
- Apply PPF over every surface that is susceptible to road debris, with a highly qualified installer

I'm in an interesting situation, leverage-wise: due to their error, I apparently haven't signed everything needed to finalize the transaction and loan. I intend to get their written commitment to make everything right before signing. Depending which forms weren't signed due to their error, I could possibly back out of the transaction and give the car back, but other than the paint, I love the car, it's an amazing machine.

One note, PPF isn’t included by default. My GT2 AWD didn’t come with it. So demanding it may not work. Some dealers add it (then include as dealer installed options)... check your window sticker or look for a supplemental card like the one below.

I think that the entire front right back to the windshield should be covered with PPF. Anything more is just that much better.

If clear coat is starting to flake off in weird places, this isn't a time for PPF until that has been addressed.

May your demands for a pristine car be met fairly and squarely by those guys.

Does that "super polysteel" polymer protection actually do much to protect the paint? Some sort of additional warranty on the paint wouldn't be a bad idea.

Kia's paint warranty is good: 36 months, against defects (not road damage: obviously the quarter sized blem isn't from driving). "Super polysteel" polymer protection is like ceramic, I am guessing. It is a paint protection coating but nowhere near as "armor plated" as PPF. It goes over the PPF, the glass, even the interior, upholstery, etc. It's to maintain the color, surface gloss/finish, not prevent impact damage.

No idea. I suspect the first time someone really polishes the car (RO) it would be removed. Probably a cheap version of ceramic coating.

Seems like someone had a contact for paint pens....if so could you please re-post the information.

I did. Until they told me after the fact they couldn’t ship paint pens due to hazmat laws (whatever).

I went ahead and just ordered off eBay.

Here’s the seller : galeanaautogroup
