Hi everyone. I plan to purchase a Stinger GT2 at some point next year. I live in Southern California, where for the most part, we don't even get much rain. I saw that the AWD costs a few thousand dollars more. For anyone that has gotten a RWD, do you have regrets on not getting the AWD? Conversely, if you got the AWD, do you wish you saved a few thousand and got the RWD instead? Is there a reason to get the AWD if the weather really isn't that bad? I've driven FWD cars my whole life so just want to make the best decision. I'd appreciate any and all input. Thanks!

I got AWD for trips to the snow - if I was in SoCal and didn't plan to go near snow, I'd get RWD - especially if you go for the GT2 and get the LSD. It saves a few bucks, but also makes the car lighter and thus faster in most scenarios. AWD can help with launches and taking turns near the limit, just more grip with 4 wheels pulling in those situations, but otherwise I'd guess you'll love the RWD.

Thanks R.K. for the input. Yeah, I probably won't take the Stinger to the snow.

I like the idea of being able to drive anywhere, anytime, even if I primarily live in an area that wouldn't need AWD or 4WD.. So unless I had another really nice vehicle with AWD, I'd probably still get the AWD Stinger.

Yeah we do have a jeep wrangler rubicon. So i didn't know if I needed this one to have AWD as well. Decision, decisions.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
We don’t get AWD here in OZ, but I can tell you if it was an option I would have still gone RWD with LSD, less weight & not driving through 2 diffs & its 80/20 I believe.
Living here in Sydney is very similar to SoCal & RWD is king & as you have a Jeep you have all bases covered.
The $$$ your save can get you some mods if you want, one mod I highly recommend is the Eibach Front & Rear Sway Bars, I have these on my RWD LSD & they totally enhance the handling.

We’ve had one snow so far in N.C., I find myself wondering about AWD, but when I drove them the RWD just felt more brisk. My regret is having RWD and no LSD... I’m GT1 - 2018, wasn’t even available.

Lots of Porsches down there , ask the Porsche dealers what % sold are 4s...........

Thanks guys for the input!

Yeah there are a lot of Porsches down here. But I think many of them get the 4s more as a status symbol than an actual necessity.

They don't make high performance vehicles with AWD because the owners plan to drive them in snow. Just sayin'

RWD cars are normally faster with a better driver on the track, just sayin lol. AWD’s are driven faster by good drivers, and people who “occasionally” push them hard. I think the next AWD with “Drift Mode” will be PERFECT!

Stinger GT SS, haha sorry I don't even know what calisting is. Just a guy who wants to try to get as much info as possible before making the plunge.

And I'm glad to hear proponents on both side.

I like to remember this is a rear wheel bias AWD and in Sport mode very rear wheel bias.

Some of us don't have a choice. Drive it in snow sometimes or don't go to work/store/etc.

I think you completely missed my point.

Many high performance cars are only available in AWD, and it's NOT because they are planning to be driven in snow. The R8 is a perfect example.

gotcha

I got the AWD and I live in Texas where we get snow once a year maybe. We do have crazy downpours sometimes.
I got the AWD because of the kids. It’s a family car and if the AWD helps me stay planted on the road better, I’m all for it. Sure I’m going to mod it, SSR downpipes in the garage, intakes ordered, and muffler shop just quoted me for muffler delete. But I got it for the piece of mind and the added safety, even if only a few times a year.
