Two sunny days in Seattle means time to wash the car. I finally got around to trying out the cheap foam cannon I got on Amazon in August. This thing was only $14 and it worked quite well. The hardest part was starting the pressure washer...

Not sure I'll use it that much though, because even though it covered the car in fluffy suds (Chemical Bros. soap), you still have to do all the normal steps (I do two bucket with grit guards, etc.). Other than making the whole thing more fun, I think I may be missing something...

The idea is that by covering the car in foam and letting it sit you're loosing up the dirt and grime so that you cause less damage when you put your wash mitt against the car and start rubbing. Some people spary foam the car, let it sit for 5mins, rinse, spray foam it a second time and then use the 2 bucket wash method. That's probably the safest way to wash your car but you need to be a bit of a detail nut to do that.

Yup. I'm sure my zeal will wear thin. When we got my wife's Lexus I bought an orbital polisher and all the Menzerna products and then I realized it takes a whole weekend to wash, clay, polish. Yikes.

Most quality pressure washers have a built in soap injector and nozzle. Mine does so I use that even though I have a foam cannon. It's just easier. Both do the job just fine but i find the foam cannon uses and wastes more soap.

The important thing is that you give the car a good pre-rinse before using the two-bucket method so that you're lifting and removing the coarse contaminants and not rubbing them around on the paint.

Get a Nanoskin Autoscrub pad for your polisher and it cuts claying time down to ~15 minutes. On my last car I did a wash, clay, polish, and ceramic coat in ~4 hours end to end.

my sense of foamcannons is they are virtually useless .............one extra step that has little impact ( mabe cleanig an offroader) but what offoader would be caught owning one ..................reminds me I need to sell mine

Ha. Are you selling the cannon or the off-roader?

Heading to Vancouver for the weekend on Friday. Can’t wait

Have fun !

I actually use a foam gun because I'm on a well and haven't had the best of luck using my pressure washer because of it.

I have one of these and I find it works just fine for me.

I recently started running down the street to the quarter car wash and use their pressure washer to blast the garbage off. Seems to get 80% of the contaminants off the paint. The $1.25 and a quick joy ride makes it worth it prior to washing the car.

Got a foam cannon, it’s just “okay”. I guess it’s easier to wash overall but I still got spots with my HARD WATER. The foam cannon off Amazon works pretty descent.

This is actually dusty, sealing the car with Blackfire is definitely helping.

try towel drying with micro fiber or blow drying with a leaf blower then finish it with a light spray of instant detailer with a micro fiber cloth , no spots

Just corrected the paint... no towel drying allowed. I do need to invest in a stronger blower though.

And quick detailer after the sealant seems to work.

how are you drying if you aren't using towels? The foam cannon is going to leave water spots if you don't dry it, it's only purpose is to reduce potential paint damage when washing the car, it definitely adds time to the whole process.

Leaf blower / dedicated blower for drying.
