New JB4 Stinger Dyno Results!

I guess what I can't wrap my head around is: If RWD needs to limit boost to launch, and AWD isn't having any traction issues and doesn't need to limit boost, why are the times the same? Stricty TCU limitations on the AWD?
The car doesn't launch in the powerband. If we could get it to launch in boost it would be another beast altogether. Also, RWD is faster :p

We currently have no way to log what the traction control system is doing. We have no idea when or even if the TC is engaging. I've seen the dash light before, but only rarely. And I'm pretty certain it's kicked in w/o the light at times.

You can see what traction control is doing from the timing profile and throttle behavior. When it kicks in timing suddenly drops, and throttle suddenly closes, to regulate boost to the short term lower target.

We need to start cracking the encryption on the TCU. I think that will be the only way we are going to cross into the low 11s for the RWD. Maybe the AWDs will get there before as they dont have traction issues.

Glad to know that you know. Now, if it were easier for the rest of us to see and know!

Just another benefit of the JB4 logging.:thumbup:That thing seems to track and log everything the car can do! Lol

The Stinger is a GT car and not intended to be a drag racer. Kia put limits on launch control RPM, etc. to protect the transmission and make sure it lasts through the whole 10yr/100k warranty.

Getting quicker 60’ times is probably a lost cause for our Stingers and best not to focus on things out of our control.
handful of muscle cars aside, virtually no car is meant to be a factory "drag racer". Nothing is a lost cause when it comes to car modding, I've seen fwd 4 banger Hondas run 1.6 60' all day. People will figure this out eventually and it will put extra wear and tear on the drivetrain, all performance mods do on every car, that's part of tuning.

I'm on 285s and even from idle I still have NO traction with moderate acceleration. With LC I would probably spin for 20 minutes.

Full disclosure, I haven't used the JB4s boost by gear feature that should help with that.

With the amount of torque our cars make we will need some meaty ass DRs+boost by gear to get a solid launch.
on the street or at the drag strip? You get a lot more traction at a well prepped track.

This car wont see low 11's or less without building boost of the line and drag radials. No matter how much power it makes I doubt it will be able to go lower than 1.8 in the 60' with its current TCU, and to run a low 11 with a 1.8 and this cars weight you will probably need 800hp+.

The next question will be if tuning the TCU is possible or do we require a hardware upgrade (torque converter) to launch harder?

Unlikely. The stock TC stalls at 2500 or higher. Much higher than that gets to be real annoying in a driver. Regardless, the engine in its current state is already at peak torque by 2,500 so no need for a higher stall. That all goes out the window once we're talking major mods (e.g. turbo replacement)

I need to track down some light weight rims for our development car, anyone know if a 17" rim will clear the larger rear brakes? Doesn't look like it just from the eye test. =/

Isn't the spare on a 17" wheel?

No, its a 135/80-18

I think the best we can do for a street/strip setup would be 18x9 rims with Nitto 555R 285/35ZR18 or BFG 275/35/18 squeezed on. Tire rack has some 18x9 rims for $350 each that weigh 21#. Will look around to see if we can find anything lighter.

talked with Hal at Summit....seems like a Hoosier 17340dr2 is what we need 26" tall on a 7to 9 rim ..which would give a 4 inch sidewall for flex $250.99 I thought I would do some investigating.....if this doesn't add up his ext is 6832...he had wheels that fit too 150 bills apiece Wash

Can anyone think of any reason these rims won't fit the rears?

I can't see why they wouldnt in those specs. I bought brand new RPF1's over a decade ago for my Honda Prelude, they were are an amazing wheel and ridiculously light for the price.

Although they're a cast wheel Enkei uses a process that strengthens them more than the traditional flow form casting process, because of that, theyre a popular track and drift wheel.

Check out the Advanti Hybris wheels. The 19x9.5 is 21 pounds, and they're like $260. I think they have an 18 too.

I can only find 18x8". Need a 18x9" at least, ideally 9.5"
