Sunset Yellow Discussion

I'm at 36 days since submitting all paperwork. Mine was a straight purchase, no lease buyout, so it's taking a while even with a straight forward sale and no extra paperwork needed.
Thanks for the update...have you received the letter that you sign and send back indicating your final decision yet? It should have the buyout broken down line by line from what another member posted on here.

@Mach_Tuck Thanks man, sorry about your car. Are you moving onto a different car or another Stinger?
Headed back to my E46 M3 for the time being and will wait on the next one for now. Perhaps a 2019 Stinger is in play...however, not sure i could go with a non yellow for it :(

@Mach_Tuck There was this sweet 2018 M2 performance edition near my house for 50k with 4k miles 1 of 150. That was really tempting me, I've heard they have been buying them up and selling them for 10K+. I really need a good all-around car though, and this fits the bill for me.

As an e46 M3 owner myself, I will say there isnt one new BMW product that I am interested in, except that M2.

I have driven them all and the newer BMW all kinda seem the same to me. I think they have lost a lot of the "soul" they once had.

The Stinger GT2 was able to provide a close match to performance and added all the practicality so it was a great fit.

Agreed, way tooooo many electrical and computer demons for my taste. My M3 has all known platform issues addressed and continues to get compliments for more than a 14yr old car should so not a worry for me at this time!

Yes, that's what I got and signed it and sent it in 36 days ago...still nothing happening. I did make another payment and sent in my new payment history a couple days ago and got an email acknowledging receipt of it.

You don’t get reimbursed for the monthly payments you have already made do you?

Yes, you do, but that is less they have to pay to pay off your loan.

Agreed, i was told this as well. Two checks, one to pay off the loan and one to cover payments already made + accessories (clear bra, tint, etc)

Not two checks, you sign a waiver so they can access your account and pay it off directly. Then, you get a check at the dealer when you surrender the car for the reimbursement of payments, registration, and accessories. That's how it was explained to me.

Awesome, thanks for better details than i got from Kia...i am good with that approach as well!

any1 in australia done with the repaint yet? mine been 3 weeks, gotta call kia next week.

Howdy @StungnTn ! I would love to see proof of someone actually getting a full repaint of all parts of a Sunset Yellow. I wouldn't take anyone's word for it because I went as far up with Kia as I could go and was told 'No the parts will match after a repaint and we will not paint rockers, rear bumper, door jams, roof trim, handles, etc'. When it is done, and they don't match, I am going to show my ass even more (luckily with the backing of the paint shop and dealership) and have those parts replaced and repainted.

@Dmchristie1 That's pretty shitty that the Kia rep approved it, even though the rear and rockers don't match. It's yet another flaw in the Kia plan of god knows how many hands in this process with an ability to make a decision that sticks us with shit, even though the other offers are on the table. It doesn't absolve them of the shitty process they set up and there being varying levels of quality that the customer is stuck with, and no recourse to correct properly. There should be no 'leeway' so to speak about any of this. It's either right or wrong, and the subjective BS of some field rep is way to big of a variable to place the final OK on. I REALLY hope you can get this sorted and fixed properly.
Update: After and email and phone call. They are coming back to reinspect on the 4th. I remain hopeful that they will make it right. Do not need everything painted just the parts that are obvious....

Dropped off my GT last night at my local Kia, they are trailering it in an enclosed trailer about 70 miles away to RK Kia who has done several repaints of Sunset Yellow Stingers (as directed by Kia HQ). I showed them my front bumper headlight chips and rear tailgate where the paint pulled off while removing the Kia emblem to install the STINGER emblem. Fingers crossed they approve both to be re-sprayed. I think they should at least approve the front bumper as I told him another owner (Scott on this forum) was approved by his Kia dealer to re-spray his bumper do to the headlight chips and he dropped his off yesterday as well. Waiting to hear back on approval at which time I'll order up some new emblems (E for front, "Stinger" for rear). They gave me a 2016 Optima with 27K miles on it as a loaner. It'll do. Fingers crossed it all works out and comes out well........

Yesterday was 6 weeks to the day since I dropped off my Stinger for the repaint. My local dealer didn't have a KIA body shop but sent the car off to their local Chevy dealership with a body shop to be painted. To put it nicely, the body shop done F'd my car up. Paint match was horrible (especially the driver rear quarter), overspray all over the door jambs and tape lines along the front fenders into the engine bay. The KIA rep here took one look at it and failed it as well. I contacted my case manage Kim and submitted the paperwork for a replacement car. Kinda sucks to be making payments on my 40K Stinger while I drive around in a 20k demo Kia Sorrento with 0 options.

wow, thats really bad. keep note of how long the car has been away from you and push kia to give you your payments back for the time it was gone.

Good luck! I tried that (they have had my car for 8 or 9 weeks now) and they told me that the $5000 was enough for me.

I would have had my car back maybe 3 weeks ago except the paint shop screwed up and used the wrong primer, so back into the shop it went. I was supposed to get it back last Friday, then today, now Friday again. Not sure how far they will kick this can down the road but it is beyond old. I know that this is not directly on Valerie (Kia rep) or even my service advisor, but holy hell man, someone has to get their collective shit together.

It is getting to the point where I am tired of waiting on them to get their heads on right and get this sorted.

Had I known this going in, I would have simply taken my money back in August and gotten something else.

This is nuts!

@derek0609 That paint matching is comically bad. Sorry about your luck. I can't imagine they did that with a straight face.

Update on my buyback...got the official "offer letter" in email this week. It details all three options again but this time the buyback, option 2, provides an actual breakdown of the fees.

They have offered to pay off the loan balance with my Credit Union in addition to the following:
Reimbursement for all previous payments i have made to CU - to be updated right before they do the payoff
Registration/Tag Fees
DMV Fees (these were part of my Credit Union lease buy out and believe it was for transfer of title from KMF to CU)
Clear Bra
Window Tint
GAP - advised i need to cancel and get refund and then they will provide a follow up check for the difference
Service Contract - advised i need to cancel and get refund and then they will provide a follow up check for the difference

I was advised then when ready to surrender the car, i would be met at a dealer by a third party (escrow agent) whom would inspect the car for non repaired physical damage and any "excessive" wear and tear. Mileage limits are waived. At this point, i hand them the keys and they hand me my check. I was advised that the check to my CU would already be mailed and processed by this point. This last piece is a BIG one for me as i advised i would NOT surrender the car (asset) until all funds were received and cleared. I was told everything is certified funds so time will tell on that one. Guaranteed i want proof from my CU that the payoff is complete before i hand over the only leverage i have.

The letter this time has a place for signature and i was told the buyoff would take approx 60 days from the date i sign and return. They were also very upfront that buyback and swap were only good til Dec 1.

The only new item is that the "swap" option was for any other car within the Kia lineup. If less MSRP, they would provide check for the difference. If greater MSPR i was advised they would work with me within reason. Interesting thought and potentially puts the 2019's on the radar for those looking at that avenue. Lots of details on the swap or collateral substitution as they refer to it.

They have been very upfront and forthcoming to this point. I was even advised to call before signature to ensure i had no questions prior to making the decision.

This is good news. I am glad there is finally some movement for you on this front.

Are you likely to buy another Stinger down the road? If not, what did you have in mind?
