Why are you buying a Kia Stinger?

Before you buy, try it out with the whole family loaded in there. There’s not as much room as you think there is. Pretty snug in the back!

While I was looking at the Stinger at my local dealership, a family of four was in and out and said the back seat was very roomy. Go figure. Each person is going to feel differently about it but I do agree it's a good idea to go with the family and try it out.

I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Before that a Buick Skyhawk, Ford Probe, and a brand new Chevy Chevette. We got a 2014 Dodge Charger in 2015 and I love everything in it, plus when I need to step on the gas...it goes.
So...I have been keeping an eye on the Stinger. Basically anything out there will give me the feeling of power over the cars I have had..So it comes down to price, and options. Right now the Stinger is tops on my list.

My main reasons being the Stinger are versatility #1. I love a good hatchback. I was actually looking at a used CTSV wagon before I found the Stinger and fell in love. At the same time I want a car that makes me look back as I walk away and the Stinger will do this for a long long time.

Yeah, I plan to bring a car seat and stroller when I test drive just to check. That being said, I sat in the back of the Stinger at the Orange County Auto show. It's not as big as say a Camry, Accord, etc. but it's bigger than most compact cars Civic, Corolla, etc.

Jeez, can somebody verify that there's less back seat room in the Stinger than the Camry or Accord? That doesn't sound good. I'm not at a computer otherwise I'd check dimensions...

Even if you could check the dimensions, there is no standard all the manufacturers follow. They all measure different ways. Some with the front seat back all the way, some with the front seat forward all the way, some in the middle, etc. Only way to really know is put your butt in the seat. Consumer reports supposedly measures them all the same way, but I wouldn't know cause I'm too cheap to pay for their articles..

I'm waiting for a test drive. The gt2 awd has everything a boy needs just the price tag hurts. Almost 53k for a kia. With their avalability of choosing options your forced to get certain things you dont want or will necesarily use. For 5 to 6k more i can get an Audi s5 sportback which Will definitely hold its value better. This is with dropping unnecessary features, in my opinion. So why I would buy the stinger? It will have to be determined with the test drive.

Yeah, you're right. When I sat in the back of the Stinger I didn't think it was smaller than my Accord. Then again, I don't really sit in the back of my Accord. I just think if it was noticeably smaller, I'd know. And I think at least one or two of the reviewers would mention that it's smaller in the back of common midsize family sedans. Unless they have and I just haven't been paying attention...

That being said I did sit in the back of the Fusion Sport immediately following the Stinger. The Fusion Sport felt bigger and certainly had more head room. I'm not sure about leg room as the battery was dead in the Fusion, as such the front seat position may not have been comparable.

Thank you for the explanation, @Mitchell! I think the assessment of the Fusion having more headroom in the back seat makes a lot of sense as the Stinger swoops a bit - similar to a "four door coupe".

This is so very true. It really depends on a number of factors. Even with different variations of the same car. Just to illustrate...I sat in a Chevy Cruze Sedan and a Chevy Cruze Hatchback. That Hatchback is rated to have more headroom, but they both have the same legroom. To me, however, it seemed the Hatchback had more legroom too, because I did not have to slouch down to avoid the headroom issue.
I posted my Stinger legroom pics in another thread. I think the major reason I ran into legroom issues (I'm 6'4") is that the Stinger sits very low to the ground...and in order to see out the windshield from the front drivers seat I had to tilt the seat backward more than I would in a taller vehicle. Therefore, when I "sat behind myself" it was the upper portion of the front seat that I had to splay my knees around. I still had room for my feet. I don't have this issue in my current vehicle...or the top midsize sedans....but they sit higher and I don't have to recline or angle the front seat as much as in the Stinger.
That being said...everyone else in my family will easily fit behind me...and If I ever have to sit in the back...I'll make sure it is behind my wife (5'6").

Good information, @admonite, and thank you for the chart. The Accord has a lot of rear legroom for a midsize car. Four inches more than the Stinger. The others are larger but within two inches. Not too bad but there's certainly less legroom...

Yeah, I didn't feel that there was a ton of rear legroom in the Stinger either. So I can only imagine what it is going to be like in The G70 which I'm also considering. Luckily it's mostly my kids that ride with me in the back seat.

Simply put, because it's everything I like in one package:

- It has enough oomph for me
- It looks great
- Has all the base options I need, like AWD, Automatic, leather seats, navi, climatisation, heated seats, possibility of towing hook for my bike rack and so on
- Comes with all the gimmicks I so far lacked like motorized rear with proximity sensor, heatable steering wheel, aircooled seats, wireless phone charging, HUD etc

And all of it in a decently low price for the whole enchilada.

Of course, it is not without criticism:

- Lack of 12V power in the trunk (which my dealership will install for me)
- Hard plastic steering wheel center
- Somewhat on the heavy side
- Seats a bit too high .. or the roof to low. It's on the limit for me (but well .. sleek coupe shape is what it is)
- Bad rear sideview due to thick C pillars
- Navi could look better ... with a less thick frame, better colors and resolution
- Matrix tech in the headlights
- What's with the reverse light being a bulb?

But overall, a cool car, that I did order.
