wont move in reverse

hope someone can offer any help, could be something i am doing wrong. when i reverse out of my drive it is a very low incline approx 3mtr length and 30cm height from start to end of drive . when i apply the brake coming to the top of the incline the car stops sure enough butrefuses to continue to move when i start to apply accelerator pedal, wont budge,i have checked for auto holds and other lights but nothing is warning me no hand brake lights or anything but refuses to move , so i have to put into forward and then try again , if i can manage it without braking then its fine but soon as i apply brakes and go back to accelerator it wont budge,on( level ground it seems fine). if i press down on accelerator nothing happens engine is running revs don't increase which is a good thing lol. but i dont get it, i called kia and they say it sounds like the auto hold is doing its job , but come on why wont it come off automatically, that's if its applying which i doubt, and how is it i can apply the accelerator without anything happening, another issue also is when i go round bends like roundabouts and such i get a vibration judder which seems very strange but that could just be the tyres ? anyone one have any suggestions on what could be causing this or if i am doing something wrong. thanks in advance. ps i have had the car for 1 day only at present 2019 plate with 10k

No responses yet? Okay, you should know that you are not being ignored. I think that flummoxed is more like it. I've never heard of such an issue as you describe with the "auto hold" fubar. It does work in reverse, but it should let go the instant you press the accelerator. I noticed today, while backing alongside a curb, uphill, that my accelerator pedal felt like either the auto hold was engaging without my permission, or the parking brake wasn't letting go. I had to push down harder to get the car to move. So, a bit like your description, but not really: at least my car moves. Hmm.

As for the roundabout: I think that roundabouts suck categorically. Just avoid them where possible. I know, not helpful. But you're swinging the wheel left then right then left again. If you're doing this "spiritedly" that should be enough to make any car "judder" a bit. Not sure what you're describing here. You could provide a few more details, like duration of the "judder", and how fast you are cornering, and if it is felt in the steering wheel, seat, both or whathaveyou. Cheers. (and welcome)

hi, thanks for the reply, i did think that once you apply the accelerator off it should go but no nothing ,i have to move forward and try again , it;s not just roundabouts tis on most bends and at speed of around 30mph ,roundabouts its even less. the judder is felt within the car and not just the steering wheel. my main concern is this blooming reverse lol/ thanks in advance

Stingers have a hill start assist control. (HAC). This prevents the car from rolling back on a steep incline when going from brake to gas. When on an incline it will automatically hold the brakes for 2 seconds to give you time to apply the throttle. Similar to auto hold. It will not show up on the dash as auto hold. What you are describing sounds like HAC activated. Try applying a little more throttle to deactivate it and get the car rolling. The HAC is designed to sense when enough throttle is applied to overcome the slope angle.

I may try reversing down a steeper hill and see how much throttle is required to overcome hill start now that i'm curious... i've had it happen going forward and it was great..

The "judder" if it happens when going slow around a corner and you aren't pushing the car at all sounds odd...if you are driving in a "fun" fashion, tires can hop when starting to reach the limit, usually if you push harder they will just start to slide normally, but some types of pavement can induce tire "hop" when spiritedly going around bends...

hello , thanks for all your help info. we took it first time on the motorway yesterday, it was not a good experience, anything above 65 the car is all over the place, feels too dangerous when i hit 70 plus. the vibration is also felt when the accelerator is slightly pressed when going straight at around 40mph it judders for a cpl of seconds ,i haven't had this before in any of our cars inc optima, it feels like i have picked the wrong gear for a second but this is automatic.car had a full kia check on collecting, booked into kia this friday see if they can find whats causing the issues.i will update there findings

Good luck with the appointment. I know when I got the car I noticed how sensitive the steering wheel was. There is no play in it. But your description of driving at 65 sounds like alignment and suspension issue if you are holding the wheel straight. Were you going 65MPH or 65 KPH. Also do you have the diesel engine?
