The specified size of tire for 18 inch wheels is 225/45R18. I have a set of 225/40R18 from my Forte GT. Will these work on the Stinger? I know the speedo will be affected slightly

Yes, should work. It's what I'm planning to do. Will lower the car .44" and speedo will be off 3.5%. I have some studded Toyos I'm going to run.WheelsandTires.jpg

I got Gislaved Nordfrost 200 (made by Continental) and really like them. Just keep an eye out on what Costco is offering….any winter tire brand is better than no winter tires, but you get additional benefits like quieter ride, better handling and more durable tread with the premium brands like Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone vs the cheapy brands like Kaspen, Triangle SnowLion, LingLong (lol), Wanli or Nankang.
 
Aye. I was looking at the x-ice from Michelin. Wanted to see what others were grabbing.
 
I ran the xice2 on the G. Not particularly impressed with them. Maybe because the car was rwd. Found I had to be real careful with the throttle to avoid wheel spin. Car would understeer big time in fresh snow. Stopping was good and confidence inspiring.

Maybe the above are not issues on a awd car. I'm a big fan of michelin tires but not sure i'd get another michelin winter tire this time around.
 
Running Michelin Xice and would say they work well. There are a few other ones I would consider like the Hakka's, or Pirellis

I’ve ran Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3s for 3 winters so far. I’m probably biased but I think they’re the best winter tires on the market. Generally available through Kal Tire.
 
According to Tire Rack's testing and customer reviews, the Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 is the top rated winter tire.
I have one winter with them, and they performed fantastic in all conditions. I would definitely recommend them.

Michelin also has a new tire, the X-Ice Snow, FYI.

I had the Hakkapellittas R2’s on my STi and I agree that they are some of the best snow tires. One shortcoming with those tires is that the sidewalls do not have the rim protection leaving the rims exposed. To the point I scratched a rim just sliding it 6 to 12 inches on the driveway when I was cleaning them last spring (at tire changeover).

Tires are meant to be rolled on their tread, not slid on their sidewalls,

The extended sidewalls also protect against curb rash even though tires are not meant to ride on curbs.

Agree with WS90 or X-Ice Snow, both work great

I had ws40 or 50 years ago. After they were about 50% worn, winter traction was greatly reduced. Is that still the case with the current iteration or that's common with all winter tires?
 
+1 for WS90, currently have those for my winter set and pretty happy with them (compared to x-ice xi3 and ws80)
 
I ran the VREDESTEIN WINTRAC PRO XL. The traction was alright even in the dry and the slush traction was fine as long as you where not spinning it. I abused the crap out of those tires. Stopping in the straight was insane. Passed plenty of lifted awd SUVs with my rwd sedan lol. They are not a magic bullet however as I have spun out once when I passed someone with traction off lol. But they did allow me to drive through a literal blizzard. People where laughing at me when I pulled up to a gas station. I was laughing when I drove away while they where stuck putting on chains on their fwd SUVs in the cold slush.
 
Just got my winter tires mounted on my OEM rims, in preparation for when the ground freezes. That's the biggest issue here, with the low sun angle and permafrost beneath the ground, with high humidity and pressure frost tends to form on the ground. It's what people call "black ice", except you can count on it here early in the morning. And then there's rain. With warming global temps we get more rain and freezing rain, but overnight it all freezes on the ground due to the same issue, cold surface temp, so even if it's above freezing air temp, the low sun angle will make sure the rain freezes...and eventually we get snow and that compacts and becomes ice and doesn't get removed until spring.

These are what I have. I studded them myself. I ran them last winter on my Hyundai Elantra GT N-line. Supposedly these have a much reduced stud count than a traditional "studded" and the pattern is very specific to give max traction, but they do well, no complaints.
