^These are what came from the factory on my car. I have a custom set of Ferrada's I run tires on & wanted to get a set of winter tires for the stock honeycomb rims.

I was curious about the following:

1) Should I run the same tire size combo (staggered?) Or go skinnier?
2) What tire brands (nice balance of cost/quality) for this car would you recommend?

I always thought you went skinnier for winter tires & am newer to this platform & wanted to ask the experts VS the stabbers (I mean the dealership).

Thank you in advance!

Most people go to a a size smaller and a square setup for winter so you can rotate them as they wear... I run 225 18" x4 Michelin Xice

skinnier ... to "cut" through the snow vs gliding over it.

the narrow-ass snow tires on rally cars, for example

Just curious if the "225 18" x4 Michelin Xice" will fit on the 19x8.5 in2 that come in the rear

Can't tell if this is a joke or not.,.

But NO

18" tires will not fit on 19" rims.

No I wasn't paying attention and copy and pasted since i asked reddit as well:
Appreciate the insight brother
It's a poor fincial choice to run winter tires on the OEM staggered rims.

There is no tire size that will be a good choice for winter tires with staggered fitment, you will end up burning through 2 set of reads before 1 set of fronts.

It's worth it to get a 18" square setup on 225/45 r18 for the winter. Then you will be able to rotate them for even tread life.

and you will find more economical tire choices

^^That's what I did with my G37. It had staggered 18" stock. Got some cheap rims from from discount tire and michelin xice2 tires (225/50/18). Lasted many winters then sold the wheels/tires with ~3/4 of the tread remaining for ~$200 less than what I paid for the whole thing to begin with.

Agreed; poor decision to run staggered winter tires, regardless what wheels they're on.

Skinnier if you are going to be driving through a lot of snow.

But that much snow will make the front of the stinger a snow-plow.

The OEM 225s that come on the fronts and come on some of the rears are criminally undersized for summer given the weight of the car...but for winter, they are fine. No reason to go smaller than that though.

If you will be driving on non-snow surfaces more of the time, then wider will give you better traction, as always. The going-skinnier thing is blown way out of proportion. Sure, 305 is just ridiculous (on my other car) so that gets 255s all around, but no reason to go crazy skinny. I'm using the OEM Stinger 18" wheels with 225 for winter, the size the car originally came with. I can rotate them all around (as I can with my summer wheels/tires). It's kind of up to you whether you want to stagger and keep the same OEM sizes, or buy a new set of wheels to run square. If you are going to keep the OEM wheels and just put winter tires on and switch them out in the spring, then might as well stay with OEM sizes.

The best thing about having a dedicated set of rims and tires for winter is I can put them on in 30 min whenever I want...like I did today :) They'll be on till the spring, but with my Toyo Observe G3 Ice studded tires, ain't nothing going to stop me...(except snow deeper than my car).

For the first 3 winters I ran 225 45 R18 on an aftermarket set of wheels. This year I decided to buy a new set of wheels for my summer setup (same as 19" OEM) so I am going to use my original 19" for winter. I already bought the rear tires and looking to get the fronts now. Will wait a while to fit them though as temps are super high at the moment.
I chose the Continental WinterContact TS860S.

Even though I know the skinnier tires are better for snow traction, the fact is that I've not been on actual snow for more than 3-4 days combined every winter. I go snowboarding very often but roads are usually clear. And even when driving on snow the main limitation was for me braking, not traction. Unless on really polished ice I never had traction problems.
So, because the car just feels better on the 19" staggered I decided to keep it for winter as well.
I plan to change 2 sets of rears while I go through one set of fronts.

this.

i have a set of 19" Forgestars from 2 cars ago - when i sold it, i swapped snow tires onto them.

i'm curious to see how they look on the Stinger, but i think i'm going to put them on my wife's car and use that for snow driving since i've been working from home. if the Stinger wasn't *black*, it would definitely get the snow meats and see some winter driving fun, but the thought of the nicely polished black paint getting covered with road muck has me thinking otherwise.
