Winter is coming, and I Don’t get snow days so I decided to put my first ever set of winter tires on my car.

Decided to have a set of summer and winter wheels/tires. ((Wife was thrilled))

So here are my 225/45/18 Dunlop wintermaxx 1s on Motegi MR116s

Had them mounted, balanced and installed through Town Fair Tire here in RI. So far happy with them. TPMS seems to be working fine. Overall I feel it’s quieter, definitely feels different driving on them. And there’s a slight vibration of some sort I haven’t had time to diagnose yet. Happens around 80mph. Could just be the winter tires. Never had a set so it’s all rather new!

Looks like a nice option...I might be moving to a cold weather climate soon. How much was this setup?

I got the quote through tire rack and then Town Fair beat it, and they had a sale on the MR116s on tire rack which they matched. All together it was around 1230. And they will change out the winters to summers for free for me next year. Also the TPMS was free as well.

They look good! I like that you got 'em in black. I'm doing same thing. I ordered/received the recommended TireRack package - Michelin X Ice and Sport Edition A8's in black. Haven't put 'em on yet / watching the forecast. The OEM wheels are awesome looking, but the blacks will be a nice change of wheel wardrobe for the winter months!

I made the “mistake” of buying a car with summer tires in New England at the beginning of fall... need to change the tire so I figured why not get a nice looking wheel and change them out.

Now, when I’m bored in the winter I can try Dipping the OEM wheels and see how I like them blacked out.

Ya, the summer tires would be a death-wish in a New England winter, yet you have the more sporty/performance ride for the summer. I take it you have the 19" staggered? I thought about it, but decided to go with the 18" squared w/all-seasons. I drive a lot. 50 mile roundtrip daily commutes and plenty of weekend get-away trips. Was looking for the more GT characteristics vs. the 'sport sedan' drive. Plus, our roads are notoriously bad. After test-driving both the 19 and 18 AWD, decided to go with the bit-more compliant ride of the 18's. It's a bit of a compromise - but not much, and I'm happy with the decision so far. Like I said, haven't changed to the winter's yet. We usually start getting a lot of lake-effect snow when it turns real cold - usually early-mid December. I'll post a pic when I mount 'em

Two sets of wheels and tires are the only way to go! Unless you have race rubber on another set of wheels, of course! Enjoy!

beautiful dog btw !!

Here it gets cold enough to make summer tires iffy to drive on but we don't get enough snow, nor does it usually stay cold enough, to justify a separate set of winter tires. VA is actually perfect for some good All-Seasons.

Yeah, I have the staggered 19s, I love them lol. Needed to make a change for winter though. I have an “essential personel” type job so when the highway gets bad I still gotta get to work lol. I’m at about 40 miles and change one way for work. Basically corner to corner of this little state. Lots of 95 driving.
