Took my car in for an oil change after a day of racing. Dealership has to do to maintain Extended Warranty. I always take my own oil. Went to pick my car up at the end of the night. Extra jug with 3L wasn't in my car, so I asked for it back. Rep hands me a jug with 0.5L in it. I asked her where the other 2.5L was. She goes into the back and comes out with the head mechanic. He wants to check my oil level. Sure enough it's above the top of my dipstick. Tries to tell me it's okay. Said no it's not, it's over filled 2.5L. He wanted to remove the extra, said no way. Redo the oil change with 2 fresh jugs you will pay for which they did. If I hadn't asked for my jug back I would be driving with 9.5L right now. WTF

I think I've seen numbers like 8.14, 7.92, and 7.3 quarts for total oil capacity. I bet they either found a quart number and read it as commielitres, or maybe found one of the high numbers, didn't measure what they took out (which was a couple quarts less), and refilled with the full system number without checking the dipstick.

Was it above the H line on the dipstick, or like up the tube? From L to H is supposed to be about a quart, so if it was just a bit above that they probably spilled some along the way.

Given the varying amounts I've read for what stays in the car (and in case it's not totally level etc), I usually start at 6qts, see where it lands on the stick, then add 1/4 or 1/2 depending. Can't imagine doing a blind fixed-volume refill.

I gave up at the dealer when every change they did they overfilled, Ive been doing my own changes forever now.

yikes. i've had to drain some oil out after at least 3 dealer oil changes, and that's with me providing the oil. one time I took in 6 quarts, and the dealer said "you didn't provide enough, so we added some of ours for you, no charge."

ugh. It is not easy to drain out just a quart of oil, especially when you have to crawl under the car with ramps. I've had to do it three times now. And then they wonder why the Hyundai/Kia engines end up with issues.

This is really disturbing. THE FG CING dealership is where you should trust to do these things.

A simple oil change....really. Feel pretty lucky with the local dealership, but this makes me

want to double check everything they do now. WTF.

... and that is why i do my own oil changes.

a master mechanic is not doing oil changes at the dealership ... its the high school kid who's watching Tik Toks and chugging energy drinks that's doing it.

this. a thousand times this.

always, always check your oil level. and preferrably in the service drive before you go home.

Its always cheaper for me to take my own oil rhan pay for dealer Synthetic. Getting the jug back with 3L left, was the unusual. Unfortunately not this time. If I had used their oil, I would never have known. Cant wait till the survey comes out for this service.
