Ever since the Kia GT concept debuted in 2011 and the more evolved GT4 Stinger concept was shown in 2014, I’ve been looking forward to driving what Kia promised would be an exciting, rear-wheel-drive-based sports car. The 2018 Kia Stinger is finally here, and it does not disappoint.

With a new chassis engineered under the tutelage of former BMW M division guru Albert Biermann, plus two powerful turbocharged engines, Brembo brakes, and adaptive suspension, the Stinger absolutely comes to the table with all the components to make a sporty car. And just look at: long hood, wheels pushed out to the corners, sloping roofline, and clever integrated spoiler design. Read more and watch a video...

Good review. I test drove a base model yesterday with AWD. It was a nice drive. Of course the dealership told me it was a premium model at first. I still need to get into a GT model. My local dealer does not have a GT model yet. The jury is still out for me.

No. They told me it was a Premium that just came in and wanted me to test drive it. I came in and it was a basic with AWD. I know they have the same engine however, I wanted to drive the premium. They also tried to quote me a $547 payment for 36 months on a basic. I laughed at them and then they back tracked and said that was a starting point for them.

Sounds like you're having a pleasant experience with this dealership so far... </sarcasm>

Dealer nonsense. Don't drive the GT if the 2.0T Premium is what you want, that power is mind changing! LOL! I drove it first now all I want is a GT version.

This is probably the biggest issue with Kia trying to sell 45-50k cars. Their standard demographic is buying souls and Rios, usually has moderate to poor credit and income, and they’re treated as such.

You get someone that comes in legitimately able to afford 50k+ and they try the same shit. Hyundai is struggling similarly with selling the Genesis at Hyundai dealers.

Would love to see Kia and Hyundai go in together for a Genesis/Stinger/K900 dealer where consumers could cut the BS and just focus on a good car buying experience.

I agree. They don’t know how to serve a customer base that has a higher standard and that may have bought from a luxury dealer before.

The Hyundai dealer I visited was especially bad. Genesis is a legit luxury brand. Slap a MB or Audi badge on the G80 Sport and it’s an 80-90k vehicle. But these guys are out there trying to sell it like it’s an Elantra. Kia at least has had some at bats (that they’ve failed on) with the Cadenza and K900. The nice thing is the Kia guys I’ve talked to are at least super excited about the Stinger. The Hyundai guys are like “here’s the G80 Sport...it’s, um, really nice”.

The Hyundai people were just as excited about the Genesis Coupe and Sedan in 2009...
