Which Used Kia Stinger 22 Scorpion Edition should I get. Modded vs Unmodded

Option 1
has 40k miles has some dings and things, but has a modlist of tuned
blow offs values
oil catch can
high flow cats
high flow downpipes
cold air intakes
intercooler with chargepipes
upgraded spark plugs + JB4
got that down to 38k

Option 2
another one is in perfect condition 10k miles, the owner is great, transaction is easier, but it is stock with 10k miles
both are the same packages, scorpion in silver
that other one with 10k miles is 37k
 
Not even a question. Get the stock one. If you want to mod you can.
 
I don't wanna sound like a jerk but given the option, who would buy a used modded car with more miles over a lower mileage stock car?

That just sounds crazy to me. Even if I was gonna mod it, I'd buy the stock one. Then you know exactly what was done to it, how it was driven/maintained.

I can see maybe if you knew a guy that had a car set up exactly the way you wanted maybe the guy did an LS swap on a car, something you wanted to do but weren't capable of doing. Like an LS swapped 3rd gen Trans Am I was thinking about buying at one time. That car was dialed in. Had all the expensive, complicated engine/ suspension done on it, just need an interior to complete but the guy lost interest and wanted to buy a C7. I knew the guy so I knew what I was buying.

Each one of those is a potential reason for denial of a warranty repair, and god knows what else was done that a service tech might find.

If you don't care about the warranty, AND were planning on doing those mods anyway, AND aren't planning to keep it long term, AND aren't concerned about resale value, then option 1 might be a good bet.

stock car with 30k less miles for less money? how is this even a question? get the stock 10k mile one! you can always mod to your taste later.

I bought my car brand new with 5 miles on it maybe. I wanted to change out the wheels instantly. Somehow I never did though.

I wouldn't mind getting the stock wheels powder coated in gloss black but as much as that costs, I'm sure it's equal in price to buying a nice set of lower weight aftermarket black wheels. I'll figure something out at some point I suppose?

You should realise how much your original wheels were worth to someone else brand new.

I was able to get two full sets of spare wheels front and rear for two brand new Stingers at a fraction of new price because I was lucky enough for someone to drive their brand new Stinger to a tyre dealer to get aftermarket wheels.

This is a no-brainer. Mods don't add value to a vehicle. And you add on the additional mileage...the modded car is valued below the stock one.

Plus even as the 2nd owner, you still have some warranty on the stock vehicle.
 
Those mods are not there to look pretty. Consider how much more abuse the modded version received. As indicated, no brainer which one to choose.
 
I think people who sell modded cars are not very bright, unless the mod is unreversible, restore to stock and sell as a stock vehicle...

Before getting flamed anymore, I just wanted you guys to know I am completely new to modding and the car scene, so that's why I asked such a dumb question. I don't really know where to start tbh and I got quoted for 1000+ for labor, so I was just thinking option 1 would give me the convenience. In any case can you guys help a noobie out with mod list and links to where I should buy them. Including if I should get used or new. Trying to get into it but still am struggling to differentiate between exhaust pipes/what they do. I pieced together in my head that I want some intakes, deciding between a lap 3 or JB4, sway bar, catch can, plugs and possibly some BOVS. Then go from there. Thank you everyone for bearing with me!

First thing you need to do is replace the OEM brake pads if not done already.

Then my first mod would be the sway bars, the improved cornering is worth every penny.
I still haven't done the sway bars, I need to though. The car's handling at high speeds does not inspire confidence. Maybe it's the weight? My 3rd gen Firebirds that were way down on power could run circles around the Stinger in the handling department.
 
Stock one for sure. Still, look over the car with a fine tooth comb. Just because it "looks" stock doesn't mean it wasn't modded at some point. A smart seller would return the car to bone stock before selling or trading it in.
 
I'll reiterate what most have already said. Go for the stock one. I've already seen a few horror stories of people buying used modded (even used and returned to stock) and the car was beat to hell. One had severe turbo damage and had to replace the short block due to damage by the previous owner. It almost looked like the car was run without air filters. All which wasn't visible just by a once over.

As for not knowing anything about modding...I'm not sure what other cars you've had or if you've paid to have previous cars modded, but you should test drive one stock first, then make your decision on modding. If you've determined you'd like to mod, that's where the forum can help. Personally I feel like it's better to mod a bit at a time until you feel like you're happy. But that's just me. Some people like to go all out from day one...and there's nothing wrong with that either.

I like the idea of a little at a time. Then you can see how the car responds/feels with each mod.
