In a forum, I cannot find anywhere where I can initiate a search - where is it?

Also, what is up with receiving the following message when I attempted to post the single sentence above?

"Oops! Please provide a more detailed message."

Hi there. Since the latest software update, the new system preserves resources by restricting a few of the more server intensive features when ad blockers are used. Most people don't even know they're using an ad blocker as many browsers and VPNs have them installed as a factory setting. But things like search and image attachments are items that fall into that category. Basic functionality like reading, writing, etcetera is not affected - but try whitelisting the site and browse around a bit and the functionality will become available again... To note, any of the account upgrades (support options) allow for the use of an ad blocker without the reduced functionality.

Not sure why the "more detailed message" issue came about...

Thank you for the explanation regarding Search functionality. And this seems to be the reason why I cannot view attachments too.

I do not have this issue with any of the other sites I visit, surely this behavior is configurable behind the scenes to allow the same functionality prior to the upgrade.

As for the 'more detailed message', copy the first sentence in my post and attempt to start a new thread with it. To get around it, I added 2 rows of random letters so that the post will post. I then edited the message by removing all the random letters, I saved it, and got the error.

Yes, it's a feature that I opted to utilize. As for the 'more detailed message' issue - that's really not supposed to be happening... If you bump into that again, please let me know.

What are your thoughts on that decision? It is pretty heavy handed.
The community is free for everyone to use except for me. I don't have a choice in that matter. Unfortunately for me, we're outgrowing the current server and if I’m going to upgrade to something larger and more powerful (more expensive on an ongoing basis), ad revenue is crucial. Costs of everything are going up. I never used to get charged for bandwidth, but now that's a thing - and various software licenses are costing more and more - with some never having been charged for in the past. As far as I see it, it's a necessary evil. To note, I browse with all ads showing so that I have the same experience as everyone else browsing with ads.

Something for you to consider - your membership prices are not based on reality, therefore I will not even consider them for a millisecond - for example:

I have several Porsche's and have been a paying member at Rennlist for 20+ years, and it costs I think $17 per year. It has a VAST, VAST wealth of information for all my cars, arguably the best on the Internet.

But here, you are charging $60 to $100+ per year for a site that whose content is not even remotely as rich as Rennlist. The Stinger has been out only 6/7 years at this point, and it appears people don't hang onto them based upon their post count.

As a guitar player, another site I've been paying for 15+ years is TheGearPage - the content is absolutely incredible with amongst other things, professional musicians post their hard-earned experiences with amps, cabs, guitars, tubes, speakers, playing technique, amp repair, etc. and it costs $15 per year, but I opt for the 'gold' package at $25 per year because I get SO MUCH value out of it.

To sum up, I would gladly pay $20 per year for this site despite it not being not-even-remotely as rich as the two mentioned above - the content just isn't there. Therefore, getting $20 per year is better than getting $0, and I would gladly pay it out of principle even though I'll hit the site every now and then. Likewise, out of principle, I will not pay $60 to $100 for an 'inferior' product.

Just something to consider.

I am for you, not against you, and why I responded as I did.

Thank you! I was wondering why there haven't been any new signups since the most recent changes. The pricing structure has been updated.

Thank you very much for your support. It's greatly appreciated.
Hey, the price is right! :)

Next, I would run a banner at the top of the individual forums letting the participants know about the new pricing structure, and ask them to consider helping support the site and its great Stinger content - something like that.

I am sure savvy forum users understand how it works if the Stinger is important to them, and, they plan on keeping it.

Thank you. It was actually an embarrassing mistake I'd like everyone to forget :p and if I could turn back time, I'd have never overlooked it. The pricing structure has always been the same as it is now - I just rushed and made a mistake when I had to reorganize the settings. That's what I get for running around like a chicken without a head...

BTW, do you have a reminder via private message that alerts a member that their subscription will expire in a month? I always find them helpful as I never remember on my own when I need to pay-up for the next year for a particular site.

This forum software doesn't have that functionality. I can get an add-on that does it - but I try to limit those as best as I can. Have a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year. :)
