Hi All,

Looking at a CPO Stinger out of state and asked the dealer to send pics of any cosmetic damage.

He sent these pics of the passenger side wheels noting "curb rash". These look like damage from impact.

Do you agree and if so, would that be a reason to pass on the car? Wondering about suspension being affected or even the integrity of the tires, or the wheels themselves.

That's some pretty nasty, the top one. Bottom one not so bad. I'd talk about wheel replacement and not settle for that deep of damage.

Appreciate it. Im wondering how in depth the actual CPO inspection is. Concerned about damage to control arms etxlc

I wouldn't expect any suspension damage just going by the wheels. It's just damned ugly and might have thrown the wheel off too. I had to have a rear wheel straightened a while ago and the odd thing was that both tires ran over the piece of crap, the front rim got minor scraped and it was the rear rim that got barely bent but no visible damage. Impacts are very strange. A CPO is hard to argue with. Ima sure the dealer/Kia considers those rims as cosmetically damaged only.

I did that on my previous G8 when I hit a deep pothole. It compressed both tyres front and rear to the rims and cracked both wheels. I would pass on the wheels definitely.. That sort of damage forces the suspension up and every chance the bump stops have been damaged. They were on my G8 which I ended up changing them and the whole struts and bearings as a precaution. I dare say they aren't the tyres on it when it got the damage

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
If that tire in the top pic is the OEM that took that nasty hit, I wouldn't trust it any more. The internal belting could be damaged. A bulge in that area could show up at any time. Murphy's Law dictates that it will happen at the worse time, like while on vacation with the family 1200 miles from home. Don't ask why I say that.

Yes, the suspension took a pretty big jolt too, though damage to any of the suspension components is unlikely. However, alignment being tweaked a bit is not beyond the realm of possibility. I wouldn't count on the CPO inspection to catch a dead rat in the glove compartment. I would do an alignment regardless. Our '23 is perfect in just about every way, and since I plan on keeping it for a long time, I'm gonna get a life-time alignment, like with our other cars. It's cheaper than a pair of worn out tires caused by alignment issues.

Whether you should pass on the car depends on your overall impression of the car and what other prospects you might be considering.

I also wouldn't trust a CPO inspection from a dealer. They're more interested in getting the car turned around and back out the door for max profit. You could always get a 3rd party mechanic to take a look at it. That way they can check the suspension and other components as well to possibly pick up anything the CPO inspection neglected or purposely overlooked/covered up.

Problem is it's out of state. I guess i could attempt to set up an inspection, if the dealer is willing to lend a mechanic the car for a day.

Ahhh yeah that makes things a bit more difficult. Apparently there are mobile inspection services. I've never bought used so I've never had to go through it. Here's some info directly from the FTC regarding buying used, directly going to the part about independent inspection. Buying a Used Car From a Dealer
