What's behind the side skirts?

I hope I'm starting this thread in the correct location!

Does anyone know if there is space behind the side skirt or is the metal chassis right behind it? I'm asking because I'm a paraplegic and it would make transferring in and out of the car easier if I could get my wheelchair closer to the driver's seat. Some cars (see photo below) have side skirts that curve under the body which would allow the front caster wheel of my wheelchair to go partially under the car which will allow the wheelchair to be closer to the driver's seat. If there's space behind the side skirt I might be able to get a custom body shop to modify the side skirt under the driver's door so it curves under the car like the photo below.

If anyone knows what's back there (or has a photo) it would help me determine if this is possible. Thanks!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Thanks to all who replied above. It's hard to tell from photos - I might need to get my KIA service centre to take mine off so we can have a closer look. Thanks again!

This is NOT from a Stinger but should give you a better idea of what the Stinger ones would look like - It's a panel designed to add strength and provide mounting points for the skirt. It's not designed to be exposed to the elements.

The Stinger side skirts aren't attached over a "normal" sill/rocker panel, they are the panel.
