Value, I guess? But way more than that. I was looking for something to replace my old 240hp Fusion that was starting to develop transmission issues. Something that looked good, and something that I could justify buying. I wanted an upscale, pretty, sporty, RWD that could fit the kids and be reasonably practical. The options were checked out, and I wasn't willing to pull the trigger on them. I'm at a point in my life where I -could- afford the Audi or BMW or (almost the) Benz, but it would be a significant budget item, and I couldn't justify it.
So I lowered my expectations. I would end up with another mid to high 200hp front wheel drive car. I was considering the Ford Fusion, the
Buick Regal, or the Nissan Altima/Maxima. None particularly exciting, and all in the mid 30-40k range if you want to break into 300hp. Bleh.
Enter the Kia Stinger. Rave reviews from everyone, the power and sportiness that I wanted, and at a price similar to what I was considering for the dime-a-dozen models. The trim levels worked in my favor too. I didn't care about the electronic suspension, the sun roof, or the smart driving features. I just wanted the V6, touch screen, 19" wheels,
Android Auto, and the nice looking leather interior. After being used to the engine options being tied to the unnecessary features, I was stoked!
I pulled the trigger earlier than I had planned because of FOMO on the lease incentives, and I couldn't be happier. I ended up with a car that was on par with my 'Wife will divorce me if I spend this much' choices, and brought it all in for the cost of the boring alternatives!
