What demographic is Kia after with the Stinger GT? What kind of conquest sales are they looking for? Have they mentioned anywhere which cars they're specifically aiming at as competitors? How about a benchmark vehicle? I know, lots of questions... Anyone have answers?

I'm guessing younger 30-somethings that have a "career" job (i.e. not waiting tables or running a cash register) that want a sporty car. There's another thread already going that is discussing the competing vehicles.

Everyone hears the name Kia and wants the car to cost $16,000. I don't see the Stinger being a "cheap" car. Affordable might be a better word for it. Kind of in the way the Nissan 300ZX used to be. My father had one of those years ago. He had a twin turbo 300ZX. It was a great car but almost anyone could afford it. Maybe not the people waiting tables or running a cash register like you mentioned. But somebody who had a decent job. That's what it's going to take to own one of these as well.

Jenny pretty much nailed it on the head. It's for people who want a nice car but can't (or have enough sense not to) pay the brand snob premium.

Thanks! I see my Optima everywhere I go and while that's a nice thing on one hand because you know people love it, it's also nice to be the only one on the road with your car. I've never had that experience and I think it'll be nice and interesting when people look at my car and ask what it is. So being that the Stinger will be a little on the expensive side and without a prestigious badge, I think there were be fewer on the road. I'm sure after a year or two Stingers will be everywhere but that's inevitable.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I agree with you Jenny. The words that come to my mind are "best value" luxury sports performance car. Irrespective of the brand or price this car will be a competitive value equation. I'm not going to pass on the opportunity to own and drive one.

Thanks guys and gal. :p Where do you think the Alfa Romeo Giulia falls in reference to being a possible competitor? I've seen a couple on the road now and they're pretty good looking cars. Definitely eye catchers.

Much smaller, not a hatchback, way more performance focused, massively more expensive....

They both have four doors and four wheels though.

Sounds exactly the same to me!

But really the Giulia starts at about fifty thousand and is a small car. More a 3 Series competitor than Stinger GT. I havent seen one up close but from pictures it looks like youre getting Camaro or Mustang type of comfort not luxurious at all.

I think Kia is targeting the BMW 430i/440i Gran Coupe and the Audi A5 Sportback. They will then try to bleed sales of "other" versions of those cars and their competitors. Like the BMW 330i/340i, Audi A4, Infiniti Q50, etc.

Since Alfa Romeo is targeting the 3 series, A4, C-class, etc. with the Giulia I don't see why the Stinger couldn't also be in the mix. The base 280hp 2.0T Alfa Romeo Giulia could be cross shopped against the base 2.0T Stinger. The forthcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce, with the 350hp version of the 2.0T, seems to align with the Stinger GT as well.

All the factors listed previously (performance, price, interior room, trunk space, price*) will come into play if someone keeps an open mind when looking at both cars.

The Quadrifoglio is a whole different animal and therefore out of the discussion here.

* Yes, I mentioned price twice
