What is a reasonable quote to have my plugs regapped?

I know getting new plugs might be better, but I'd like to stay stock for warranty and all. I know, magnusson moss, but I'd rather not risk it. Anyway, going to be picking up a jb4 and need to regap. This is not something I feel comfortable doing myself. What should I expect pricewise to have it done for me and is there anything I should look for in a shop.

I wouldnt regap stock plugs and get colder plugs. There are videos on how to get it with a few swivels so you do not need to take off the manifold. Shouldnt be more than $100 for an hours labor.

If you have a handy, automotive inclined, friend, you can probably limit your out of pocket to the cost of his favorite 12 pack.

I would just replace the plugs while you are in there with the densos for the piece of mind. I paid just over $100 to have mine installed.

Will gap plugs for Guiness, particularly their stout. Or any decent stout or IPA. Or beer in general. I like beer.

Pulling the manifold is a bit daunting for the average non mechanic but changing them with 2 swivels is pretty easy. Get a sparkplug socket with built in swivel and another generic swivel. Only one plug is hard.
Agree about changing the plugs to densos or hks while you are in there.
If you are that worried about warranty don't do the jb4! But go for both :)

I was quoted 320 dollars after coupon at a reputable local shop in NJ. The prices are always higher around here.

Yikes. I can buy many cases of beer for that amount of dough
It is a good 2 hours labor for most humans removing the manafold so not surprised to see some qoutes in the $200s. $300 is steep.

Let's say a good two hours for novice humans. It took me slightly more than one hour, and half of that was dedicated to the middle plug on the passenger side. That being said, things are much more expensive in NJ. There are many small shops near me in west Texas and previously in Kansas who work for $50.00/hr. Sure, the dealers were charging $125.00/hr and billing on "book-time" vs actual time spent.

@Regs120, changing plugs is about as simple a process as there is on a modern day automobile. $300.00 is plumb crazy in any market!

I'm in PA and it was just over $100 from a really good speed shop in the West Chester area. Not sure what part of NJ you are in but $320 is crazy.

Having just swapped plugs, it isn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. The passenger side took all of half hour, the other side 15 min, max. It's worse changing plugs on my 2000 GMC pickup! I don't know if anyone had made it clear that the coil packs come apart! That alone made it a breeze. Like was said, if you have any automotive experience, don't let this intimidate you.

Good tip on the coils comming apart.

I had my dealer regap the standard plugs to 0.025. They did it for Can$180 plus tax.

Yeah - I might just head to your neck of the woods. This includes install of course and not just regapping it.

I bought the plugs and told them what to set the gap to. If I remember correctly the total was $140.

FAST of West Chester

As a person who test swapped my plugs a total of 5 times, it gets really quick once you do it the second or third time.

I wouldn't really pay someone to do something like this, though I (and many others) owe it to the people who figured out it was possible with multiple swivels rather than removing the intake manifold. Having said that, if you're a stickler for exact torque specs like I am, you're going to find how inaccurate your torque is with two swivels and quite a bit of angle on the middle passenger side cylinder, lol

You guys are a bunch of noobs lol.

You can do plugs in about 30-50 minutes without removing the manifold.

Why pay money for it when you can do it yourself. I did the job myself and the first time it took me about 50 minutes.
