• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

What car did you upgrade from/swap from, and how are you finding the Stinger in comparison?

Title, basically. Just curious what cars people were driving before and how you feel post-switch.

To kick things off, I came from a VFII SS-V Redline with the LS3 V8. The Stinger is an upgrade in just about every possible way, the only downsides would be the exhaust note not even being in the same league, and I felt that the handling on the Redline was not necessarily better, but a little more predictable (possibly due to the torque surge from the turbos in the Stinger).

There is an existing thread with a similar title. Use the magnifying glass to search if need be.

I upgraded from a WRX over 4 1/2 years ago.

Bag the search function, full speed ahead. I get to amuse you with my comparison (no comparison):

I had been driving a '94 Plymouth Voyager since December '05 when I got my Stinger in March '18. The only feature not an upgrade was from (a unicorn) five on the floor to the paddle shifters. :D

I had a string of six-cylinder Subaru Libertys - a 4th gen Liberty 3.0R, a 5th gen Liberty 3.6R Premium and a 6th gen Liberty 3.6R. I loved them all, for different reasons.

The 4th gen felt like a compact sport sedan. It had the best steering feel of any car I owned (including the Stinger), had a better sound system than any other car I've owned (including the Stinger) and the interior quality was fantastic. However the engine lacked torque.

The 5th gen had much more torque and a smoother ride than the 4th gen but the interior quality was crap.

The 6th gen had a better interior than the 5th gen, adaptive cruise was a fantastic new feature and externally it looked like a really expensive car but the ride was very firm on its 18" wheels.

The Stinger is in a different league when it comes to power and torque, sounds like an exotic sports car when revved in Sport mode, the head-up display and surround cameras are features I now couldn't live without, red Nappa leather and suede headliner are sumptuous and it gets a lot of attention. Only downside is you have to be careful with your right foot, especially when cornering or in the wet - the Libertys could easily (and safely) put 100% of engine power to the ground regardless of the environment. The Stinger can't.

Upgraded from a 2013 Sportage Platinum 2.4l petrol, the difference between the two is night & day.
The Stinger is by far over & above in every way better than any car I’ve owned previously.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Upgraded from a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime to the 2.5T GTLine. Everything is better, other than the 20miles of EV, then 40+MPG....yeah, I'm really missing that part with $5.50/gal gas. Oh well, worth it! At least I'm getting 27MPG with the 4cyl and not 21-22MPG with the 3.3TT. Besides going from 121hp to 300 is pretty eye-popping

I went from a 2009 Scion xB with a manual trans to the 3.3L stinger. The upgrade is obviously drastically different and puts a smile on my face every time even lightly press the gas pedal. I do miss the manual though.

Went from a 2012 Holden Commodore SV6 which was a nice place to sit, sufficient power, and I still like the looks of it. Chlorophyll green. Super comfortable for extended journeys. A nice daily driver with enough poke, and good at high speed when overtaking.

The Stinger is that plus a whole lot more. great long trip comfort. The interior is way nicer with the Red Nappa leather, the ride quality is much nicer, more refined as you'd likely expect from a car thats effectively 15+ years newer. The boot is smaller, but that doesn't really affect me. I have be a bit more moderate with my right foot. Got a little sideways coming out of a car park onto a main road and giving it a bootful lol
The cabin feels more enclosed without feeling claustrophobic.
The view out the rear window is... limited lol

I love it. But I'm not blind to some of its faults.

Trying to see out the back of a Stinger is like trying to look through a mail slot in a front door.

Surprising how quickly you get used to it, though.

Lol its so true.
its worse if you don't lower the rear headrests all the way down but they still interfere with the view.
Thank god the cameras on the car are fantastic!

Went from a 2015 Cadillac CTS V-Sport 3.6L TT. it broke down on me more than any other car ive had. When the A/C stopped working one day I drove it straight to the Kia dealer and grabbed a GTS.

Wow, that's terrible- I didn't know those GM CTS/ATS V's had so many issues- I've only read pretty positive things about them, but never from an actual owner.

I too came from a CTS-V Sport, it was a 2014 though! I only left the platform because I wanted something with AWD. My V-sport never had any issues in the 130K I had it for, even when it was tuned. The only thing about it I miss is the HUD, GM's HUD is WAY more advanced than the one in the stinger.

They Don't. Lemons do exist though, especially with the V-sports as they are very limited production cars. I had 180K miles on my 2014 V-Sport before I got my stinger, 100K of which where tuned to be around 500rwhp. Never got it dynoed to get the exact number though.

It was good just had a lot of issues. The previous owner found me and gave me a stack of service records he had dealt with. Then I had it for a while and had to be towed 3 times. The owner after me kept in contact and he seemed to not have any issue. It was was trifecta tuned when i got it.

Ahhh. That could explain it then. Ive kept up with the V-sport world as I made a lot of friends in the community, and the trifecta tunes where good for a while, but they never seemed to keep them up to date. Where any of your issues mechanical? The Vsport/ATS-V world is pretty much dominated by schmitty tuning now because his tunes keep pushing the cars limits while somehow still remaining reliable. His Vsports are running mid to low 10s and he has a bunch of ATSV's in the 9's on stock turbos.

I had one injector fail, then the A/c was always cutting out, I think twice I had a coil go bad. I kept an extra coil on me at all times. I still have that GM coil, lol..

I talk to a local vsport owner and he was telling me about Schmitty and how he's been pushing the platform.

Sounds like you may have had a smaller lemon for sure. The only thing I have left from my v sport is the carbon wing on the rear. I refused to let Vroom have it when I sold it to them.
