There was a John Phillips column in the March issue of Car and Driver posing the question: "If you could own any three cars, but only those three cars for the rest of your life, what would you choose?" Most of the small sample of folks polled, largely other members of the automotive media, selected rare classic cars.
While I respect and appreciate the classics, there's just no way I could blow one of my wishes on a car lacking basic modern conveniences and technology. No, my 'til-death-do-us-part rides would need to go, stop and turn as well as they look. But even focusing on cars made in the last generation or so, I'm having a difficult time choosing just three. I know I'd want something track worthy, but comfortable enough for the occasional road trip. One of the newer Ferraris seems about right, but which one? The La Ferrari is surreal, but a little too extreme. The 488 GTB is closer, but I have a thing for naturally aspirated screamers, and somehow the 488's turbocharger feels like cheating. 2015 458 Italia? No, wait ... Spider. That'll do nicely for Choice #1 I think!
I'd also need something with above average utility. Although I have owned a couple pickups in the past out of necessity, I'm just not a truck guy. Large-ish with tow capability is more to my liking. I love the Cayenne, but I'd like something a little more luxurious. Choice #2: Range Rover SVAutobiography DYNAMIC. (Kudos to Lincoln for making me seriously consider the Navi here.)
Now for the errand runner/commuter. It can't be too precious, but it absolutely cannot be boring. I'll be driving it a lot, so it should be relatively efficient. It sounds like I'm describing the Mission e, doesn't it? Choice #3:
I'll continue to think about it, and I'm sure I would make changes given enough time and consideration, but I thought I'd pose the question to my fellow Stinger enthusiasts. What 3 cars would you select? We're dreaming here, so money is no object. The cars must be production models offered for sale in the past, present, or confirmed for the future, and they don't need to be available in all markets.
