So I am still a car mod newb. But I recently heard about electronic exhaust cutouts. For those of you like me that had no idea what they are, it is a electronic valve with a Y pipe that installs between the muffler and resonator. If you open the valve, it bypasses the muffler and the exhaust exits out the cutout located under the car. So it’s basically a muffler delete with the valve open and if you close it, you use the stock mufflers. Looks like summit racing has a couple of options that should work with cost being between $400-$500 for the parts.

This seems like so much of a no brainer that I can’t figure out why more aren’t doing it. Is it because folks like me don’t know about it? I did some research and there doesn’t appear to be any negatives. I am hoping you all can weigh in on potential adverse factors in installing these. Thx!

I can give you two: Cost and poor gas mileage. I know, you don't agree with the gas mileage but if you bypass the muffler you're going to want to hear it....

I thought about doing it. I even had a set of cutouts in my Amazon cart.

Then I looked under the car. There's no good spot to mount them. Simple as that.

Is it just there isn’t enough space between the resonator and mufflers?

Where else would you want to put it?

Between the cat and rear axle there is a channel that hugs the exhaust. No space.

The only possible location would be before the cat, which I would eliminate the muffler, and resonator, and cat. That would mean open exhaust right under the driver's seat, causing all kinds of rattles and smells that would ensure any sane person kept the cutouts closed at all times.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Good to know. I guess I’ll wait for that EVC axle back from SSR.

I generally stay away from cutouts due to long-term leaks. They're a great idea for the dragstrip/track, but I like to actively avoid more moving parts and added complexity to the exhaust system. Exhaust systems run very hot (obviously), so the less it has to do other than excavate gases, the better... at least to me, lol... I like to keep simple things simple!
