Ouch, a pot hole caused that, is that a dislodged sensor you're holding?

That sucks...does insurance cover that?

Nasty! I'm not getting the perspective: that little hole did all that?

That pothole is small potatos where I'm from. What brand are your wheels? Seems to me it might be the result of a cheap cast wheel that caused all this. Or you just got really unlucky how your car struck that pothole.

Same here. Every winter opens up gaping maws, some a yard or more across and three or more inches deep. Typically a pothole is smaller but the depth is the damaging part. Keep your distance, so that you have maneuvering room when the vehicle in front of you either dodges, or passes over and reveals the approaching crater.

Ouch! Sorry to see that. :( Are you sure the first rim is a write-off - I don't see any visible breaks. It's amazing what a good wheel shop can do to straighten the rim and refurbish the finish, provided there aren't any structural concerns.

Kinda hard to judge the size of it, without something to scale it to - could be a monster ....

Looks like a tread depth gauge, being used to point out the sidewall puncture.

These were brand the new rims!

Yup there's a tear in the rim not visible in the pic. That rim's a goner. The difference between repairing and replacing is around a hundred bucks so I figured i'd just buy two new rims, though apparently they are out of stock. This reminds me of last summer when I needed to replace one tire and there were zero tires in my size in all of Canada.

Re: insurance: too small an amount to go through insurance they will make me pay for it over the long run and then just keep my rates elevated.

Ouch that sucks, i had oem mag bent and repaired @95% with 3 ripped tires ripped within 3 weeks.. hardcore in montreal this year
~ 1800$

You drive into Bigfoot's foot print! That suck man.

Damn, hard to believe a pothole that size caused all that damage. I know I've driven over bigger potholes (inadvertently) without damage.

So.....about the wheels. I have the same set and was thinking about changing them.....if you're interested in a set of 4. Just thinking out loud right now, but if it is something you'd consider, we can talk via DM.

It would be interesting to see how big that pothole actually is, if you could put a pop can beside it or something similar for a size reference. Would give others a better idea of what constitutes a risk.

Might also be a useful picture to have just in case that pothole has been previously reported, and the municipality bears any responsibility for not addressing it in a timely fashion.

How much were you thinking. It would need to pass the WAT. (wife approval)

Man, i feel for you. I had the same thing happen to me last year. Long story short, i was taking action to avoid a car coming into my lane (focusing on not hitting him) and did not notice the beast of a Pothole in the road, and did this to my wheel. Now I'm swerving the potholes like a drunk driver. Fortunately I took out a warranty when i purchased the car that covered my wheels but i was pissed for days!

That blows, the best solution to potholes is PHAT tires, the phatter the better, get a tire so wid that there is always a flat surface contact.
You'll also have the benefit of added traction.

Clark Street crater?

I think I may be up for the award for most time driven on the spare tire. My wife thinks this car is expensively unlucky.

Damnnnn

Youch!! Can I get the address of that pothole please, so I can avoid?!
82 street southbound on the north side. I'm sure the city will fix it soon.

You and I are pothole brothers, haha. I guess I will also have to swerve like a drunk, all this to have low profile tires. I skipped the extra warranty since there are many exceptions and you tend to pay more on average than what gets paid out. For example, scraping a curb was an exception. I guess I should have listened to my instincts on this one.
