Check this guy out...Montreal Canada area..One of the BEST in the business. Knows what he's talking about.
Just search his vast library of videos to find exactly how to do just about anything related to Car Detailing.
That header demo (BMW M3) tells me all I need to know: this guy is obsessed with detail, so, he's the perfect specimen of a detailer. Just watching him do that wheel, and then cover it in "prewash" suds (heh!? wasn't that wheel just washed?), makes me look away.
When I lived up north, I simply did not drive my "nice" cars in the salt/snow. Ever. And my "nice" car at at the time was a Regal.
I had winter beaters the 10 years I lived up there, but I did still take care of those. My Jeep for example, was Krown coated every year for the last few years (when it became available in the US). Then once every few days, I would take it to the self-service wash and blast the underbody with the soap, then a rinse. Then I'd run it through the automatic touchfree. I never had as much as a rusted out brake line with that method.
My buddy's 2001 STS lived in Canada from 2009-2014 and was Krown coated and washed with the same frequency as my Jeep. In 2014 he brought it from Canada to Pittsburgh and continued the same routine every winter. That car is just now starting to get rust bubbling up in the rear fenders, and those Caddys and the GM H/G-body it's based off of are NOTORIOUS for rotting out. Most were long gone 6-7 years into ownership for most people. 11 years of brutal winter driving and only getting a little rust now is pretty impressive.
Not exactly winter yet, but it’s getting colder in Joisey. Gave her a quick bath this weekend. Quick for me is 1.5 hrs (yep black is not fun) I will be using the drive thru self wash bays to power wash during winter and avoid touching as much as I can. Will make me crazy but that’s the price of living in an area that gets freezing temps.
PetroCanada has the 90 day, 1 car wash a day pass. If you buy and reload online, you get 95 days. I usually go once a week to the touchless car washes as it gets all the salt out of the body. The touchless ones also have a jet that sprays underneath the car too.
