Seems I got a letter stating just that, not a recall mind you, but a ''voluntary service bulletin''....for the master cylinder!! Are you kidding me?! I guess there is a problem when you first start the car and try to operate the car, prior to warm up, the part in question will fail and the brakes will not have ''power'' when you step on the peddle...oh they still work, just not what everyone on the planet expects from power brakes.........in case anyone is wondering, back in the day brakes weren't always easy to operate.....you were literally applying pressure to the wheels directly from the pressure you submitted with your feet....... I guess I'll voluntarily go in and get it done ....in august when on vacation.....lol.

Incidently I did try and move the car once , winter time, just to move it......damn near backed it right out the driveway while slamming on the brakes.......whew!! never do that again.....my car doesn't like to be woken up like that I guess......always warm it up ...thats what I do , even if just moving the car a few feet.

Yeah, there are two threads on this "voluntary campaign". I have decided to not bother unless my brake emergency light stays ON (as per the bulletin).

Thats where it is...on the fridge....lol

voluntary as in the government didn't put a gun to their head to force the recall.

Got my letter and have an appointment next Thursday (May 20) Never had a problem but don't want to find out what it feels like when it fails Not sure if it can be inspected and passed or if they will just replace the part I just hate it when a part is inspected and I have to return for the replacement part to be installed My driver side exterior handle had to be inspected a new part ordered then it had to be painted then installed so it took forever

better to have this done...As for how it would feel, I would imagine it would feel like manual brakes.....you really need to step on them to work.....I doubt there are any variations of manual braking around these days.

I posted a rant over on "Voluntary Service Campaign," but here I'll just ask: Have any of you been told by your service dept. that (a) they'll only replace the part if there's damage to your original, or (b) that they have to do the inspection before they can send in your VIN to order the part?

Many race cars have manual brakes still.

My dealer replaces whether it needs it or not....it's easy money from the mfg recall wise.......any dealer that doesn't is either lazy, stupid or both....as for the latter.....It's been my experience what ever was inspected needed repair/replaced.

Exactly what I thought. Thanks.

UPDATE: The service manager just emailed me that the part is being ordered and they'll call to make an appointment when it arrives. Yay! My dealership is, for now, back in my good graces. Knock on wood.
